***Daughter has established a Go Fund Me Page today in order to help with costs of travel from MI to Mayo in Rochester MN- meals- and lodging. If you are interested please go to the following link: https://gofund.me/b3f9f07b

just wanted to reach out to the wives whose husbands have cancer or experienced cancer and ask for help.

i am having a difficult time coping and we are only early days in this horror of a disease. weeks and weeks of scans and testing and today we meet with a dr. from a cancer center here to tell us what stage the cancer is and if it can be resected.

i want to be there for my husband of 33 years and now when he needs me the most i have become a cowering scared to death crybaby-i reached out to my dr. for anxiety/depression medication and begin that today.

if you have any words of advice how i can make my husband comfortable and how i can garner the strength to deal with this so that i don't break my vows of 'in sickness and in health.' it would mean the world to me.

Got back early yesterday evening to this lovely beauty! My Christmas Cactus decided to bloom in April! Brought a big smile to this weary face. We were able to leave Mayo 4 days early-I had anticipated a long hospital stay which has become our normal after biopsies--it was a lengthy procedure for the third biopsy and NO pancreatitis episode-we were told they altered the anesthesia used this time excluding a particular one (we looked it up and it was used in the two prior biopsies) and we are convinced that by eliminating this one it did not trip another pancreatitis attack. Husband did very well and we gave him 48 hours after the procedure hoping that nothing would crop up and when it didn't we headed back home to Michigan. We are three days in waiting for the pathology reports-holding our breath and preparing for the results. Prayers and good thoughts truly do give us strength and calmness with resilience to continue on-which is what we have to do and we are so grateful for them. We couldn't do this without it. Love, Mel

thank you so much Winnie! It means so much to us. we are holding our breath-but thinking positive thoughts-it's hard watching someone you love in pain and not knowing how long we will be away from home-and you know if your home you do so much better mentally and physically and emotionally.

I'll keep you posted.

Take care Winnie.

Love, Mel

Melody, I will be keeping you and your husband in my thoughts and prayers for next week's biopsy that it finally determines what is the source of the problem so treatment can happen. Praying too that another case of pancreatitis will not be a problem as hubby has been through so much already. Have a safe trip tomorrow back to Mayo.

We will be heading back to Mayo on Sunday for a third biopsy attempt which will invariably trigger another pancreatitis episode so we are planning on being admitted to the hospital until he is able to return home. We are desperate for a conclusive diagnosis so that we may begin treatment. Everyone here is on pins and needles but we are hopeful and praying this biopsy does not wreak havoc on my husbands overall health such as it is and that he recovers quickly and we can plow forward on this journey. Please continue with good thoughts and prayers-they are so gratefully appreciated. Love, Melody

April, What a nice surprise to come home to! We've been at Mayo for 10 days and finally released yesterday afternoon-5-1/2 hour drive and I see this lovely package in a stack of mail. Thank you so much for your thoughtful and lovely gifts -I can't wait to get started on the embroidery!! Love, Mel

Melody, I am praying for you and hubby's strength as you have to go through the steps to a clear diagnosis which will then determine treatment options. These are truly difficult and harrowing days for you both and I am praying for some answers soon. I hope being home with your own bed and doggie will be a good break and a chance to take a breath and just rest a bit more.

Alee, it's such a sick feeling when you know you can't do anything to alleviate the pain. and we found out today the 2nd biopsy was also inconclusive so in 14 days we have to head back to mayo and they will do another biopsy which in turn will trigger another episode of pancreatitis. they are saying that cannot move forward with a sure beyond a doubt that this is cancer diagnosis even tho-as they said "it looks like cancer-it acts like cancer, it must be, but they have to have that one cancer cell on a slide to be definitive and proceed with chemo and radiation-we were told today it will be impossible to surgically remove the mass as it has entwined itself around 2 major arteries-they just wont operate with those risks-we are disheartened and we are tired and sad, but we are heading home tomorrow where he can sleep in his own bed and get to see his old pal Hildegard our mutt. so we wait again and try to stay healthy and optimistic. It surely is a struggle I never thought my family would go thru-It's very humbling.

we are overwhelmed with the response we have received from our Go Fund Me Page. I am truly amazed at the generosity of so many people. We are in day 3 of hospitalization at St. Mary's in Rochester, MN. after his biopsy at Mayo on Thursday-and as was expected and told "highly" likely, the pancreatitis returned in full force-We are scheduled to see a pancreatic surgeon tomorrow afternoon and are hoping he will be able to be discharged as this is a must go to appointment. Or, if we can get him to come by the hospital for consultation. Bruce is tired and a bit discouraged and in pain. I get to the hospital-walking distance very early in the morning and come back about 6:00 or 7:00 in the evening to shower and hit the hay. We are also in the midst of a blizzard at present making travel difficult, but i am thankful I am within walking distance to the hospital. It is a very beautiful snowy scene outside my hotel window-Again, I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the Go Fund Me page my daughter set up - it is truly, truly appreciated! love, Mel

after the procedure yesterday we ended up going to the ER at St. Mary's Hospital here in Rochester because he has developed pancreatitis again. We have made arrangements to stay at a hotel as our AirBnb expired today. He is heartedly discouraged and in very bad pain-also on the CT scan today they descovered "spots" on his liver that weren't discovered with a CT scan just three days ago. It's so discouraging as we seem to take two steps forward and two steps back. We meet with a surgeon on Monday and Oncology on Tuesday there will also be a PET scan done on Wednesday-Daughter and son-in-law have to head back to MI because of work commitments, but my brother's in law and my sister in law will be driving out to be with me since I won't have my car-daughter is driving back with ours. I'm exhausted, my husband is down hearted but still as sweet and cheerful as he has always been. We are trying our best to be strong, but it's the 2nd time in two months that this pancreatitis has reared its ugly head. Keep us in your prayers and if inclinded please tap on the link above that will bring you to our Go Fund Me Page to help with the costs of being out of town and meals, etc. Love you ladies-Thank you so much. Long morning-he was in for over 2-1/2 hours-he looks good-NO pain so far but we have the night to get thru before contemplating returning home. Biopsy 'inconclusive' due to residual inflammation from the pancreatitis a month ago. But, there are a lot of slides to go over and we will have conclusive diagnosis according to our Dr who did the procedure in a few days and so we wait. Thank you girls for everything-do you realize what it means to have so much love and prayers sent our way? We are truly blessed and I am forever grateful. Let us get thru the night quietly and with well needed rest. I'll keep you posted. And, THANK YOU so much-Love, Mel

Day three at Mayo-Husband has a procedure tomorrow that will highly likely trip another pancreatitis episode but is a necessity for another biopsy-if all goes well we can go home for the weekend and then we head back to Mayo for Monday-Tuesday and a PET scan on Wednesday-if complications arrive then I don't know what will happen - more than likely ER and hospital stay-last time he was in for 9 days. It's awful expensive here and we have until Fri at our Airbnb-so we are trying to make meals here to save, but by the end of a long long day of scheduled appointments it's hard to get into the spirit of making dinner-usually right after we are off to bed to prepare for another round of appointments the following day. It's sort of a blur and we are moving at a phenomenal rate thru the appointments, but I miss home, I miss my bed-and my husband, my darling daughter and my son-in-law Evan are exhausted. Keep us in your prayers and good thoughts. Thank you my farmgirls for listening. Love, Melody
