Posted - Dec 28 2006 : 04:44:07 AM On Christmas Eve Little Women was on (Kate Hepburn version) and my daughter and I watched it together! I didn't even ask her which is cool, because she is 14! It was so nice, and the movie was great too!

Posted - Dec 12 2006 : 11:16:43 AM I really love it, too....I'm sorry I don't own the dvd (the new version), but maybe after payday I will :) This thread really reminds me how much I love the story, with Christmas and history, and the love they share as a family. I was an only child, and was pretty envious of the sister's relationship. When I was "Amy" in the ballet, it was pretty fun to be bratty, and then to grow up and marry Laurie. I really hated that in the book, because you want Jo and Laurie to end up together, not Jo with some old guy, but if the old guy happens to be Gabriel Burne, then I guess I'm ok with it!!

Posted - Dec 11 2006 : 8:43:09 PM I love the films and the books...I have decided that I want to be Marmie when I grow up...I have the four daughters part! She is so patient and king, and is always finding "teaching moments" with her girls...especially in the book.
I am going to dig the dvd out and watch it this weekend with my girls, they are just now old enought to really love it too. Thanks for the reminder, it is a good holiday movie...the part when old Mr. Lawerence gives Beth the piano for Christmas..it makes me cry everytime!

Posted - Dec 11 2006 : 8:13:21 PM I've seen both versions - the Katherine Hepburn and the Winona Ryder and I think both are really good. I love those movies. For some reason never got through the book all the way, should really go back and give it another try.

Posted - Dec 11 2006 : 8:07:35 PM I love Little Women! Meg is my favorite character. I had seen the movie many times over the years, but I took some time last summer and sat down and actually read the book. I can't believe I wanted so long.

Posted - Dec 11 2006 : 7:59:38 PM One of my favorites too and I fished it out of the $5. bin recently (yeah me!) It's the version with Susan Sarandon as Marmie, Winona Ryder, Clare Danes etc and I just love it! There used to be an old version on that had Elizabeth Taylor in it but I haven't seen that in ages! I don't remember ever seeing the Katherine Hepburn one (maybe the same? but strange I don't remember, I always liked Kate too!) Didn't we all think we were Jo or wanted to be? I have some old Alcott books with really interesting bindings and always bring them out around now. When I can post pictures I will share.

Posted - Dec 11 2006 : 07:50:14 AM There is a really old one, maybe 30's (??) by George Cukor, with a young Katherine Hepburn as Jo. That's the one I grew up with--and the book--I much preferred the book because I always imagined me as Jo :)

Posted - Dec 11 2006 : 06:49:13 AM I love Little Women! Is there more than one movie version? I only know the one with Winona Ryder and I absolutely love it. I cry every time and Dan doesn't get it. It's perfect to watch while knitting on a snowy day! Now if we could just get some snow around here...

Posted - Dec 11 2006 : 06:34:36 AM I love, love, love Little Women (and most of Alcott's works). I was a ballerina, and an artistic director staged a ballet of Little Women for us. I was cast as "Amy" and the performances were a highlight of my life...everything about that book is perfect!
