Posted - Nov 05 2015 : 04:25:52 AM My Mom passed away late Sunday night. We didn't expect this because we took her to the doctor just Thursday and she had a good checkup. God blessed us with the doctor running two hours behind schedule, so we were together when I would have been working. She lived 45 minutes away but came out to stay with her Sister in law quite often. Her last week with us was filled with baby shower, family dinners, and my out of state daughter taking family pictures. We are so grateful for this. I am sad that on Sunday when we spoke I told her that her only other child, my brother Ben was back in the hospital because of his drinking. He moved back east a year and a half ago and his drinking and using her for money really brought her health down and she disowned him this spring. It was hard visiting him in the hospital to tell him that she had died-had to leave quickly before I hurt him. Really don't want anything to do with him after how he has used us all and now he is all alone. But Mom would have been 85 next month. Tough full blooded Irishwoman. Cleaning out her apartment in Senior building now and her neighbors keep stopping in because she was a friend to all and looked after those who were sad or forgetful. I look back and regret daily phone calls that were too short or hugs too short. She left little poems out of the newspaper around her apartment to the tune of love people while they are still alive. She left me a detailed list, "Andrea, upon my demise, these are the numbers you will need to call..", with social security, her cable, each credit card with their phone number and her account number. She had copd for over ten years, but we thought she would live forever.... |

Posted - Dec 07 2015 : 07:23:53 AM Andrea, It's been a month and this is about the time that the shock wears down a bit and all the brain chemicals that were sustaining you start to subside. Take care of yourself, rest and spend all the time you need being quiet and reminiscing. Your mother sounds wonderful and I'm certain you have endless memories to make you smile. This is a hard time. Just keep taking it a breath at a time.
I'm praying for you.
