I don't know what has come over me, girls. I just send out information to our family regarding our son's graduation ceremony, and suddenly, I can't stop the tears. My nose is running, I can't speak without whimpering and losing the words... Eghads! Who is this mushy mess sitting at the computer right now?! I think it has finally hit me: my baby is all grown up and graduating! Where the heck is that box of tissues?!

As many of you know, I have homeschooled our son since before school was even an option. At one time, I had a "Romper Room"-style set up in our dining room, with every book, every puzzle, every activity, every craft item you could think of... it was such a wonderful, magical place to be! We were best buds, and to him I was the moon and the stars and the sun. Now, I'm demoted to "Oh, Mo-o-om!" and I've got a living room littered with books and papers and half-empty glasses of milk, with a pair of empty, stinky boy shoes peering out from under the coffee table. Although it irritates me to no end when company stops by, I know that someday I am going to long for this mess before me. And truly, every now and then I get glimpses of that warm, loving little boy staring back at me through his grown-up eyes, and suddenly my heart melts and all is right with the world again. <Sigh>

Thankfully our son has finally decided on a very sound college education and work plan, and suddenly everything is in motion. Come May, his portfolio will be thick with accomplishments, and it will be time for his final private homeschool evaluation, followed by our annual visit to the high school guidance counselor for final approval. We will then proceed to choose a cap and gown in his favorite colors, write his bio for the graduation pamphlet, order graduation announcements, and start planning his graduation festivities. Before we know it, we'll be personally handing him his official diploma at the stadium at Penn State in front of hundreds of other homeschooling families. Exciting, indeed. But I ask you: How am I ever going to get through this without becoming a blubbering mess? If you could see me now, you'd definitely understand why I am asking! I'm a mess! LOL!

My baby! All six plus feet of him! A man! Graduating! College! SO exciting! Then again... MY BAAAAAABY!!!!!

OMGoodness. I have got to get a grip! I already embarrass him now... What will it be like months from now if I don't get this under control?! Maybe I can bite the inside of my cheek really, really hard... or suck a lemon... or have someone step hard on my foot... Any advice?

Hugs -

Nini

I love that, Chris! Just love it! Thank you for the kind thoughts! And thank you, too, Ally - that means a lot to me! I'm feeling much better today. I guess it's just one of those emotional mom-coasters we go through, huh? It's all good! Good things are on the horizon, for sure! I just have to remember to focus on THEM - AND to bite hard on my cheek when the tears start flowing! LOL! Hugs - Nini

MAGNIFICENT!!!
Ya know...I keep telling myself that one day I'll miss the mess too...however, with three under 5 and a pre-tween that is confused about his age...
I'll cherish the days now and pray that when my time gets there, I'll be as wonderfully happy and sentimental as you, Nini!
Ya done good, Sister!

Well, personally, I don't think you're leaking. I think your eyes are sweating
from exercising your emotions. That's what happens to me all the time too!
It's a good thing, savor and enjoy every moment, let it fill your heart to overflowing.
You'll be drinking from your saucer 'cause your cup has overflowed. Its all good.

Thank you, Star... I was relaying all the details of the graduation ceremony to my hubby when he got home from work. He asked, "Are you crying because you're sentimental, or are those tears of joy, because it's almost over?!" And then he sang, "It's the most wonderful time of the year...." LOL! That sure stopped the waterworks!!! Hugs - Nini

Many many (((HUGS))) to you! I can only imagine what you are going through - the pride and yet the heartbreak. Rest assured that the future is what you have prepared him for... With the training you have given him and God in his life, He will succeed in his heart's desires. Much love!
