Posted - Oct 24 2013 : 4:26:42 PM So my son is now two. I had posted about our time in NICU to find out he had a stroke on the left side - the speech side of the brain. I always knew he would talk, but prepared for it to be delayed. We've been signing and he can do 50+ sings these day. We have gotten momom and dada from him but today he said apple! Of all words. It was very exciting for me as other people have heard "words" and I just look at them like "really?", but today was my day, clear as mud and not an easy word to boot. Course there are apples everywhere and he eats them daily, so it is a common word around here.
Just sharing Laurie

Posted - Oct 27 2013 : 7:08:20 PM He's such a whirlwind. No other words since, not has he repeated it, but I'm happy he said it once. His grandfather said of his dad, "He was slow to talk, but once he started he never stopped." I just laughed. He's so like his father.

Posted - Oct 25 2013 : 1:47:09 PM That is wonderful Laurie. Apple is no easy word and if he can say that word he is well on his way to being a chatter box in no time.I bet you were so excited to here that word.

Posted - Oct 25 2013 : 09:08:01 AM Great news! The signing was an excellent step. My husband was a teacher for autistic kids and even they started to make connections that speeded up oral language development. Another great plus is that kids can make their wants and needs known and avoid frustration before they have control of many spoken words. My bet is that the words will be coming faster as time goes by. Susan
