Hello Everyone!
Well it's been 2 years since I discovered MaryJane's farmgirls, and today I officially have joined! I AM SO EXCITED! And if you couldn't tell this is my first post.
I'm a 42 year young, mother of the "wolf pack 3" , and wife to a guardian angel. To top it all off I FINALLY know what I really want to do with my life ,to be a FARM GIRL! Now to figure out how to do it.
So we recently moved out to a little rural town, Mt. Angel, OR. It's a step in the ultimate direction, a small farm in 3-5 years.
Any ideas, suggestions, or advise? I'm having a little problem with organizing my thoughts, so that I can set realistic goals, Mostly because I'm so excited about the future.
Here's to future friendships.

Kim, the "dreamin' farmgirl"

Welcome Kim,
I agree with Jenne, put it all down on paper and organize it so you can find it again. I believe in "piling systems."

Sounds like you are on the right track ... now, what you need to do is add to or start a saving account ... Good luck, it is a lot of hard work, but if you really want it, you will get it.

Our goal is to have a farm in 3-5 years. We're really working on the savings and credit part right now. We're almost debt free and chugging along.

Hi Kim,
Welcome ... did you say you have a farm already? or you want to get one in 3- 5 years?
If you already have one and you want livestock, do a LOT of research ... If you don't have a farm yet, start saving and making your credit perfect. Anyway, enjoy your time here.

Thank you everyone! Mt. Angel is beautiful, and the Willamete valley is very fertile ground. I'm starting my garden this year. And thank you Lotus for your advice.

Congratulations and Welcome!
I am on the same path as you and looking for land to move to.
I read lots of farm books and magazines. And do what I can now.
Knowledge is power!!! I am a chronic list maker. I also
have problems staying organized. Daily lists, made the evening before.
The lists helps lot.

You need to take things slowly as far as starting.a farm. Remember when it comes to livestock, you just can't take off for an overnight trip. Join your state farm bureau. This organization has representatives federally and locally. They will help you if you run into problems with your municipality regarding zoning and ordinances related to farming. Glad to have you here on the boards. We're all here to help laugh and cry withyou.

Hi Kim!

Welcome to Mary Janes! Mt. Angel, OR?? The name alone sounds heavenly and Oregon is a beautiful state! I don't have ideas for you either, but I know a lot of farmgirls will! Glad to have you on board!

Welcome Kim! So glad you joined us finally :) How exciting about your new dream farm on the horizons! I don't have any advice at all about organizing your thoughts. My brain is super ADD and ever since we finally found our little homestead this past summer I can't organize my thoughts for anything. I want to do it all. We are going to start out with a nice veggie garden, which I already have experience with and this year we are going to start a flock of chickens. My hubby wants a couple goats, but we are going to take things one step at a time.
Good luck to ya in finding your dream farm!
