My family loves to play board games. I have the good standbys like Monopoly, Game of Life, and Scrabble. What wonderful games do you suggest I buy for this years addition to my collection?

If you like strategy games here's some of our family favorites:

Settlers of Catan
Ticket to Ride
Risk
Acquire

Some thinking, word, and card-game games:
Set
Quiddler
Five Crowns
Mancala
Tripoley
Uno Attack

We love all the ones you all have shared as well. I know we have a ton more in our cupboard that we play, but these are at the top of the list.

Bananagrams is a favorite here!

Oh, and Aggravation - I played that with Dad all the time when I was a kid, and still love it because of the special memories associated with it.

Ooooo. I love cranium games. Another good one might be Aggravation. Sort of like Sorry, but with more strategies.

Ha... go ahead with Apples to Apples, but I've played it, and we never really liked it. Only played it a couple of times with the same family, so maybe it was "environmental." How about Balderdash? That's our favorite.

Hi Julie, the game my family recently have been enjoying is called "Malarky". It's ages 10 and up. Very clean, funny game. I think it's made by "Patch" and comes in a tin box not a cardboard box.

We love Apples to Apples too -- for all ages -- and our favorite for groups is Guesstures --kind of like a fast charades -- people seem to "come out of their shell" when playing it! ;)

Sequence is the most fun for us. Easy to learn and takes a bit of time to master. You can play in teams, which is fun. All ages.

I also like Racko. Another easy to learn, all ages game.

Depending on their age, Apples to Apples. There is a "kid" version also. We love this game .

Also, I heard Mad Gab is hilarious, but I do not know the age for it yet.

I second the praise for Apples to Apples. Our family has had a lot of laughs sitting around the table playing that game.

all the adults in my extended family love playing Apples to Apples - still! If you're looking for an adult version try Boxers or Briefs.

Upwords and Jargon. both word tile games, but not as intense as Scrabble. My husband will play Upwords with me, because he figures he has a chance of winning, but never Scrabble. :-)
ceejay48 Posted - Dec 17 2012 : 09:30:08 AM
Uno, Skip-Bo, Boggle, Battleship, Chinese Checkers, Dutch Blitz (a card game)

Typically I will NOT play Scrabble with my hubby because he takes FOR-EVER . . . and I mean FOREVER to think about a word. The ONLY time we will let him play is when we use the timer from our Boggle game.

Thanks for the ideas, Dawn. But, I should have let everyone know that my kids are adults. I don't have any grandchildren yet. The game of "Sorry" is a fun one that I forgot about. Thanks.
