So my youngest son and fiance are looking for a place of their own. My sister in law has been coming by my house for 2 months now crying big boo hoo tears because her last daughter flew the nest. I hope I do not get that bad off. I am making a promise to my self that I will not do that. I am already looking for a new hobbie. I am going to try and stay busy. Hum maybe a bigger garden or something . I keep telling my SIL to get some hobbies. Have many of you women experienced this yet? I am excited for my son and fiancee. I remember how excited I got when I first moved from home and had my own place.

Okay so I am thinking sewing room and craft room to fill my son's empty bedroom. Why did'nt I think of this sooner. I would love to get my sewing machine out of my bed room. And all those boxes of craft supply's and materials. Maybe I could finish some project's I started on years ago....LOL

It was hard when my son left for college but, you do get past it and its nice kind of an independent feeling. Now my Mom has moved in with me and my Son is home from collese and living with us. I kind of miss the quite days.

Dorinda,
I am a new empty-nester, too! Our daughter moved out of the guest house in June. She had techmically been out of the house for a number of years, but she was "here." Now she is four to five hours away. She comes home about once a month and the visits fly by. We text, email and call. She is my best friend.

I also did some things I had always had in the back of my mind....finally made laundry detergent from scratch, found the perfect iced coffee recipe, dried flowers ....

I hope you can transition easily. If you have any suggestions for me, please let me know!!

Good luck, I'll be thinking of you!

It's been a long time but I remember feeling like I could have some free time! My only daughter is my best friend and doesn't live near, but we do all kinds of fun things together when we can and talk almost every day.
Our son is developmentally disabled and we see him every weekend, even though he lives with a 24/7 caregiver.

All of my kids have moved out, and it feels really good to see them make their way in the world, they may have moved but you will be surprised how much they need you, teen years we don't know anything but when they face life without you, you'll become pretty darn smart! Now is time for you to do all the things you want to do, that you didn't have time for, enjoy! Roxanna

Our oldest 2 graduataed this year from high school and have moved out. It is alot quieter than usual, but I am happy they are spreading their wings a little. Granted, we still have 3 left at home, but I want them all to move on and have great lives and learn and experieince things. We will always be here for them if they stumble.

But in the end, i am proud that we raised them to be be strong and independant.

It can be very wrenching. My oldest daughter got married and moved 3 states away and I felt totally lost. But you do get past it, with the help of friends, hobbies, a new job, etc.

Like you said Dorinda, I got myself busier than normal. I went back to college, got my degrees, and really got into my piano music. I also had more time for friends to come over, more time to cook, more time to ....... etc.
