Posted - Feb 09 2012 : 5:04:23 PM i just have to brag for a minute....i had my hair cut last week (pre chemo) and had planned on getting a thing called underhair from hatswithhair.com...it uses your own or fake hair to attach to a meshy(scalp) thing and then you wear a hat or scarf over it --sorry-not describing well- anyhow- the stylist didn't really utilize all of my hair the right way and i had decided not to order the thing- it costs too much to make it and i didn't feel that there was enough hair there-tonite, my daughter walks in with her hair cut and the cuttings in a bag--and announces that they (my kids) are paying for the thing for me..... i could cry!!!!!!

Posted - Feb 10 2012 : 7:23:01 PM thanks gals! yes; in spite of themselves they are awesome! betty-my eldest son's hair is longer and fuller than mine ever was and mine was thick before this cut!!!!
the whole hat/scarf/etc concept is hard for me-my daughter crochets and has offered to make hats for me and a few gals have knitted or crocheted from here and from capsforacure ( i knit for them too) and the funny thing is that i like what i see in pictures but on me?? well-i'll be practicing!!!!

Posted - Feb 10 2012 : 6:58:45 PM Just before I started chemo, I had my hair cut about 1/4 inch long. I had been growing it for three years, but when the doctor said I would lose it all anyway, I thought that cutting it would be the best. It was. I also found I could just wear a cap of some sort and I was pleased with myself. I have a wig that they gave me at the Cancer Center, but it is itchy and I don't wear it very often, if at all. People may stare, but if they ask me I would just tell them I was going through chemo for cancer and they would understand.
I'm through chemo now and have had three haircuts and have been keeping my hair rather short. I don't think I will ever try to grow it out long again.
You have very sweet kids to do this for you. I only have boys, so it wasn't really an option.
