Today is my oldest DS's first day of 7th grade. My "suedo DS's" first day of 8th grade. My DDs are on their way to their 2nd grade and kindergarten first days. I'm proud of them all. They all look Sharp in their new clothes and shoes, new backpacks in tow. Every other year, my FIL would have called all day yesterday, and been here with me all day today, waiting for the kiddos to cone home. I'm excited with them, and really missing my pillar. It's a bitter-sweet day. And I've never been just myself and a toddler at home. Logan is the only one not starting school today. My DH is working. Things are so strange in our "new normal".

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

It is strange during those first few days with all that silence. DD starts next week and it will be her first year of all day school. I'm looking forward to a clean house, getting my fall garden put in, and having lunch with other grown ups.

But it sounds like your world is still filled with love! There is that void there that cannot be replaced, but keep his memory alive with the "kiddos"---keep alive the fact that he has been there in the past and would be today if he could.

Memories of school days, especially that first day, stay with us. How wonderful it will be for them to remember your FIL as making that first day so special!

My thoughts are with you,
Darlene
