I had mentioned a few times that my sister-in-law was diagnosed with a terminal form of Leukemia back in May near her 53 birthday. She passed away late on Monday night. One might say she was born a fighter and died as one.

She was born weighing in at roughly 2 lbs 2 ozs back in 1956. Back then she was the smallest baby to survive in the Western United States until the early 1970's. She later became a nurse and then got her master degree to become a nurse practitioner in neonatology. She worked in the neonatal ICU at Primary Children's Hospital for well over 30 years. I can't tell you how many premature newborns she helped to survive the odds or how many parents she helped in their time of need over the loss of a little one. She was a very special angel here on earth.

She never married or even had any children of her own but she was and will be treasured by many for all the things she has done for each and everyone she was around. Now she is truly an angel in heaven.

Thank you Debbie.......I will miss you.

I did not know this post was you and just sent you an emailbefore I read it. I lost my dad Jan.5. You and your family are in my prayers. I would not have gotten thru mine without the prayers of others who cared.

Madelynne~ What a breath-taking tribute!

I am deeply saddened to hear that Debbie died. Leukemia is such a nasty cancer..they all are!

I was taken by your description of her work as a neonatal nurse. It is so incredible to think that she dedicated her life to passion that defined her perhaps without even considering the profound impact she was making day in and day out. It makes me ask, "Do I recognize the person who may just be 'doing their job' but is deeply affecting my life or my day in a powerful way? Do I remember to say thank-you? Do I remember that their job is more than 'just a job?' "

My candle is lit in celebration of her life...my candle is lit in celebration of your life and your husband's. My candle is lit in honor of the fact that we are connected because of leukemia in the lives of people we cherish. I bow deeply in humble regard...~julia

Madelynne,
I am so sorry for your loss. It's never easy losing someone, but seems so much harder when they're so young and have been angels on Earth. Sending you light and prayers.

What a beautiful tribute to a special angel. I too have known people who were angels, saints--truly heaven's special gifts. They themselves saw nothing spectacular about their lives, just lived according to their deepest calling. I am sorry for your loss but know that you have been blessed to have this person in your life.
