Here are a few places to look for jobs other than the newspaper-
Google "(your state) Job Service"
Yahoo Hot Job
Monster Jobs
and Craigslist.
Also check out the websites of big name companies in your area- for example "Wells Fargo", Old Navy etc- they often have a "Careers" link where you can search to see if there are job opening in your area. Some of the bigger places don't advertise even with Job Service until they are desperate because they have enough applicants coming to them. Just a few tips I have picked up.
Also have your resume on your computer as most places want you to fill out an e-application now and want your resume attached.

Also send out resumes "cold". Many times companies don't advertise or your resume arrives at the right time and they're looking to fill a position.

OOhh -- this is some news I'll have to give to noah -- he's always on the lookout for a fulltime job. He's working part-time at the Planters Warehouse up in Va., but that's a lloooong day for him, and they don't always work a full week. He's tried the State Emp. website, and some Craig's list postings, but they seem to be rather sketchy.
Any good listings for him he'll be more than happy to find. Thanx for the info.

I was going to recommend www.indeed.com too. When I went to a class at the unemployment office that's what they suggested using.

Thanks a lot for that info. There's also usajobs.gov for federal jobs. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever get another job being over 55 (barely, but still). My vet rep at the employment office gave me that and also www.indeed.com. I've applied for several state jobs and gone on the interviews but have heard nothing. I will keep plugging away though as they're talking about cutting DH's hours.
