I'm getting married this fall and still working on the details, like what to wear! We're getting married in a small wedding chapel, and it will be an informal wedding with a barbecue afterwards at my farm. The groom is wearing khaki pants and a blue striped shirt. I know I want a blue dress, but i'm really having trouble coming up with an appropriate "country girl" style. Any suggestions? I can sew if I can't find something to buy.
I'd also appreciate suggestions for outdoor decorating!

I guess I accidentally posted this twice.....my computer was giving me fits! But I love the ideas, especially the glass jars with candles. That would be really cool! I already have a candelabra that I hang in my wall tent....it would look cool under the trees too!
I think I'm definitely going for the broomstick skirt....I did love the clothes in the last MJ magazine, that's just my style. OOOh, and red cowgirl boots! I love red shoes because I'm a redhead and my feet are too far away to clash with my hair, lol.

Congrats Deb - I don't think there is a more beautiful time of the year to get married that in the fall - I'm sure it will be beautiful and I'm certain YOU will be too. Having a business, I do some decorating for weddings from time to time - actually I'm doing two in Oct. - casual and outdoors. We will be using pumpkins, gourds, straw, fodder shocks, burlap, mums, ornamental cabbage, and the list goes on and on - you really can't go wrong with all of nature's beauty. I was thinking the broomstick skirt route as well. I love them with boots....and a soft denim jacket. In the lst issue of MJ Magazine there is an adorable pattern for bloomers and a camisole that you can make out of vintage pillowcases! Very romantic looking! I had a farmgirl wedding as well. I made bouttinierres (i'm sure THATS spelled wrong!) using crocheted lace doilies and batchlor's buttons (again with the spelling). Have fun with it!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. I think that you should just spend a day out shopping to look for a dress you love and is comfortable. You will know when you see the "Right Dress".

Congrats Deb, I am happy for you!! I was just sitting here thinking about my wedding 18 years ago today!! A broomstick skirt with boots might be something to think about and maybe some sort of lacy shirt. Just a thought. I wore a white dress (mom insisted) but I wore my red boots with it. Mom wasn't happy. Hey they were clean. I am sure what ever you decide to wear will be beautiful!!

For a country wedding, I love the old "Gunne Sax" type dresses...cotton or linen in a print or fabric...and there is also that gal in the U.K. I believe who has some gorgeous patterns. I like a flowy, frontier type dress...if you know what I mean. Good Luck!

Hi Deb!! Country themes are just plain FUN for a wedding!! Congratulations! My suggestion: What would compliment any blue dress better than a great pair of COWGIRL BOOTS!! My cousin wore them with her dress for her wedding and is definently suited the whole wedding really nice!!!

Bonjour, Deb! I just saw all the neat suggestions on the other post, but wanted to stop by here and give my heartfelt congratulations!! Little glass babyfood jars, or bigger canning jars, are cute hung from tree branches. Babyfood jars are just right for a votive candle, and the bigger jars work with that or would be lovely filled with wildflowers. Make the handles with wire, and wrap it around the sides a few times with shorter pieces that you curl up on the ends. Hope you share photos with us! Hugs, Nance |
