Ok...so big booboo. I forgot my godson's second birthday. It was yesterday. I was sortof waiting to hear about a party or something...because I'd talked with my MIL several weeks ago, and she said we would know something sooner to the date...and I've just been busy with the garden, and (due to his own reasons, my dh did not see his family on father's day)...so I'm a TOTAL heel.

What say you? How do I mend this?

Ha ha, Nancy!!! That would do the trick, now wouldn't it?

My sil is the sweetest gal I know...she responded almost immediately and said that they were in Florida on his birthday, and that she had called to tell us the party is this weekend (the 28th)...that she really appreciated my concern, but to NOT AT ALL feel bad, that Max wouldn't know a special day from a non-special day at this point, because he's 2 and they all seem special :)....

So, we will see them this Saturday and I can't wait. It's good to have good family.

A new car when he is 16 should do the trick.

I wouldn't stress too much. People forget things all the time. Even birthdays. He's only two after all, he won't remember. The mom is another story, but a phone call should suffice. How about arranging for a little one-on-one with you and the little guy? You could go to the park, have an ice cream cone and you will be the bestest godmother ever and no one will even think about you being "late" with a gift. :)Time with someone is much better than a present anyway.

Well, sometimes it's easier to catch her via email, so I wrote to her over the lunch hour. It's also sometimes easier for me to apologize that way because I get all tongue tied over the phone when I feel terrible...

We'll see what happens..Hopefully I won't get in too much trouble. I saw my little godson about 3 weeks ago and we had the best time running and chasing in the yard with his older sister. He's such a sweet boy, a good boy. Hopefully they don't take "godmother" membership cards away!!!!!

I think honesty is always the best policy but then when my husband divorced me; one of the reasons he gave was that I was TOO honest! LOL!
Also....you're probably too young to do this but I use my age to excuse a lot of things like forgetfulness and they seem to buy into it! Just kidding...I know you feel terrible but where's the Godfather in all this....I doubt whoever and whereever HE is....he is not beating himself up over it or scrambling to make things "right"...but I know....we are the ones that are held responsible....like I told my daughter when she had her baby...just remember and toughen up because from now on "it is always the Mother's fault"....LOL!
You'll all "mend" just fine and I'm sure you are a wonderful Godmother and he is a lucky little boy...plus he's only 2.....he'll never remember!

Have you called your godson's mother with the "OMG, I missed it!" yet? A quick phone call asap will help soother her feelings, and the little guy will be excited to know that a present is on the way ... especially if it is delivered in person!

I try to be organized and prepare so far ahead for things sometimes (and DH's family likes to wait...until...the...last...millisecond) then I am more apt to forget about it when the day finally comes.

Good luck mending that little fence! A quick response showing obvious remorse goes a long way. And I would MAIL this present to him asap as well, even if you plan to go there in person later on.

You are right...there is always a way to mend things...and I can't think on it too long. Tonight I will go to the Christian bookstore and get him a book or two, and then yes, schedule some time to go to Indy to see them. I have several days vacation left and might just take one to go to the Children's museum. I know he's only two, so he won't exactly understand, but his mother will. And, though my husband's relationship with his family is odd, I love her and care for her feelings very much.

Jonni - where family is concerned doesnt it always seems the "fenses need mending"? You'll find the perfect way I have no doubt.

There is always a way to mend! Perhaps you could still find a meaningful gift and make a sweet card, and make both a personal thing for your little god son. Something he will keep as he grows older. Are there any family keepsakes that might work? Or maybe give him a biblical fun toy for now, and a bible for later, since you are one of his spiritual guides as a godmother. Then call them and make a time to take your godson on a little fun afternoon, just the two of you, so mommy and dad can have a break. Would either of those ideas work out with the family or your location to each other?
