I'm tellin' ya, this ignoring them is paying off, big time! I'm a lot happier and hubby seems to be happier too. His family really seems confused but they are suddenly getting nicer to me. I talked to a friend of mine who has been in the same situ and she said this is all normal but don't get sucked in, believing that all is well. They can and will change if they suspect they have the 'upper hand' again.

This isn't about getting the upper hand, on my part anyway, but just living my life so all of us can be happy. I wished it wasn't this way but I have to protect myself as hubby can't seem to quite do it...so it's come to this.

Actually, the SIL who does talk to me is upset with us cuz we aren't dropping everything for Mother's Day and the party but I honestly don't feel anything for the day. Just another day in my book. The last few years, everyone else has gotten a present except me, while I'm sitting there so I've gotten over that one. I'm not hurt anymore...maybe a little bit but not so much anymore.

I go on facts and logic most of my time but when it comes to family and emotional stuff, I'm in deep water.

Well, got to get on the road and will talk to all later!!

I'm new here, so I don't have the whole history--but it sounds to me like you're on the right track. I have in-laws that really get under my skin, they seem to thrive on drama and problems. If there isn't one, they make one up!

In any case, I try to ignore them too, we minimize contact, and when we are together, I "kill 'em with kindness" as my Aunt Mabel used to recommend. We are so much happier!!

Winona, if you are happire and DH is happier...well then I think you are on the right track. We all have the choice to spend (any) day in our own way...glad things are looking up for you.
