It's that time of year again to give up something you enjoy. Even though I am Lutheran, I give up something I enjoy every year.I have been doing this for as long as I can remember. This year I gave up alcohol. Not that I can't live with out or have a problem with it but a good glass of wine or beer at the end of a day or with a good meal I truly enjoy. Most people I know think it's funny I give something up (being Lutheran) but I feel like it is such a minor inconvenience for something so major that Christ gave for me. I always try to give something up that I truly enjoy and will be challenge on.

Thank you to all who replied. It is very interesting to hear about what others give up. Last night I would have give my right arm for a beer or glass of wine after my day at work. But grape juice in a wine glass had to do. I never made it to Ash Wednesday service as most of the church's canceled here in my area as God dumped 20+ inches of snow on us. I did go snowshoeing in the beauty he created and meditated on his Love and Forgiveness.

I don't quite know what religion I am....long story.... I do know tht I am a Christian and I too, feel that giving something up for lent pales in comparison to what Christ wen through. I have decided to give up fried foods. It sure is hard, but one day at a time.....

I've given up pop/soda and candy. And even though it's only been a day I'm already 'feeling' it.

Every year we give up junk food snacks, like potato chips, Doritos, pretzels, etc. Even organic ones.

If we feel the need to munch, I'll allow popcorn.

But then, after 6 weeks without them, why do I go back to them? Also, it sure helps the grocery bill, giving them up!

I gave up chocolate, which is what I have given up for the past 5 years.

I'm Baptist, but my mama grew up Catholic and taught me to give something up for lent. This year it just kinda slipped up on me. I compleatly forgot until I was at Walmart yesterday and say all these sooty foreheads and thought "my! it's ash wednesday already!" I think this year I will give up 15 minutes of my time each day to read the scriptures. I have gotten bad about not doing that lately and need to get back on the ball.

What we write today slipped into our souls some other day when we were alone and doing nothing.

I am also a Lutheran, but I a heathen too. LOL I haven't given anything up for lent, and I didn't go to Ash Wednesday services either. I have the plague, and didn't want to share it.
