My very worst fear has been realized and I need all your well wishes..I am at Sacred Heart with my 4 year old daughter who just yesterday was diagnosed with leukemia. She had a bone marrow biopsy this afternoon to determine that diagnosis for sure but all signs point in that direction. I am a myriad of things right now, not the least of which is completely shocked, numb and upside down. My husband has taken time off and we are staying here as a family. So far, she is in pretty good spirits, but we have a long, long, long road and we are faced with redefining what is "normal" for us. Today, I feel strong..yesterday I was sick and could barely think straight..several good cries throughout the day have been extremely helpful..putting the word out has also been helpful. I will be sporadic in my communication but will update you as I learn and understand more. Obviously, anyone with experience with leukemia would be more than welcome to contact me and share that experience. It is all a little unreal at this point..I'm numb and pacing......
my warmth to you all, ~julia hayes

Julia,
I am so sorry I am slow in responding. I have been away from my computer for several days. You and your sweet family will be in my thoughts and prayers. When I met you at our "tea" in November, I was so instantly drawn to you . . . your warmth and charm and most of all the amazing way you spoke of your family . . . with total love and devotion. I will keep Aria in my prayers. I live close too and would be more than willing to do anything. I will check in at Sacred Heart and see if Aria is still there tomorrow.

Hugs & blessings and heart-felt prayers,

Brenda

Lea, her son is older i think around six or sevenish. she also has another daughter who is probably around oneish. when i went and saw them i didnt think to ask how old the kids were. so i am guessing but i atleast know that her son is older and the sister is younger.

Did I read somewhere that Julia also has a little boy? Does anyone know his age? I don't want to forget him. Siblings of children who are going through medical challenges often have their own set of distresses & they often get lost in the chaos. They need our support & love as well. As a mom, it really helped me when others showed love to my older boys when our youngest was so ill.

So if anyone can share information about that, I would really appreciate it.

Julia,
Aria & your family are in my heart & prayers. I can not begin to imagine the hurt in your Mama's heart. But we are here being strong for you and lifting you up in spirit & prayer.

I, too, would like to send a little care package if someone can provide me with an address.

I don't know if your daughter has to stay in the hospital for awhile or can go home and have her treatments but I know that she will probably be bored a lot either way and was wondering if you could e-mail your address so that my daughter and I could put a little care package together for her. Kids love to get mail and hopefully I can include some things to keep her busy. Let me know - and we are still praying for her!

Julia, I was surprised that when I joined the group that I read something so close to my life, I was diagnosed with acute promylecytic leukemia in Nov. '90, went into remission, relapsed 18 months later and received a bone marrow transplant in Nov. '92 and have been in remission for 15 years now...I feel so positive for ya'll and your heartache that you are going through now, I just know that everything will be okay!!!hugs and kisses and many thoughts and prayers sent your way

Julia, I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's illness. All of you will be in my thoughts & prayers. My father-in-law has been fighting acute leukemia for over 12 years now. He is 82 years old & is still winning the battle! The new medicines they keep coming out with have been truly miraculous. A big hug to your precious child.

If there are little comfort/entertainment gift that Julia would allow, please let me know. Hospitals, after the scary part wears off a bit, are really boring places to be for any length of time. Just let me know. I wanted to add that my boyfriend and I are both sending much love and healing thoughts toward the whole family, and especially little Aria. We are with you in spirit Julia.

Julia, my thoughts and prayers are with you, your family and your sweet daughter.

My daughter's best friend Anissa Ayala had leukemia. This was in 1988 and her story was known world wide and a TV movie was made about her story also. You can Google her name Anissa Ayala and several stories come up. You can Google City of Hope and look under Success Stories or:

If you need to talk to Anissa herself, just let me know. There is always hope and faith that lifts one up!!!

Thinking of you. XO
