My daughter and I were talking today and I brought up about her art. She's a talented artist but hasn't been doing much lately. I offered to buy more art stuff for her, whatever she needed, if and when she feels like doing it.

What I'm wondering, and brought up to her, was if I set up an etsy store or a website for her, do you think she could sell anything on it?? I also thought of those cafe press stores as she has painted the backs of leather jackets. Also she has done big paintings on the side of buildings, I can't think what you'd call them! She's done dolls and a few portaits too.

She's not ready now but did seem interested as a way to 'get away from things' in the near future. I thought I'd start doing a little market research and see what everyone thought. ANY ideas would be appreciated.

It's just really starting to hit her that her hubby isn't coming back and she's left behind with the 4 kids. The enormity is starting to come home now. But she's a fab mom and needs all the help our family can give her. We've been talking and starting to get into the little cracks and trying to prevent them from becoming huge holes.

So, any ideas?

My daughter told me today that she has gone back to work for a few hours a day. She's now concerned that my granddaughter has ringworm and I told her to get some iodine. She seems to be holding up pretty well, considering the circumstances. Some friends of hers pitched in and either bought her a car or fixed it so she can buy it herself. I didn't get that part clear but she has a 1999 Ford something coming next weekend. Her car's tranny is going out and I couldn't afford to get it fixed, I had to pay IRS taxes, so it worked out anyway.

Thanks for listening to me!!

No, Jo, as far as I know but she has said she's not ready for anything...just taking care of the kids. She tried counseling and it didn't do anything for her. But she's talking to me and we have things planned together, I just have to get loads going that way, which my company already knows about and is working with me.

Yep, I just have to sit down and find some art stuff and see if that's what she wants and then send it. Thanks for the thought tho! :-)

Winona, is your daughter participating in any local support groups..or there is a ewb-bsaed greive support for young widows/young widowers that meet in their local areas and plan events and outings together. I think it's called Young Widows Bulletin Board...but she might do well reaching out to others in her situation, as well as taking a step toward getting back in touch with her artistic talent.

Hey Winona--
Good idea--Karin is right about her maybe taking some classes to get around like minded folks...I know when my father died, my mom sort-of retreated into herself, and all of the things she did creatively died with him for a time. She couldn't create by herself, but when she got around other folks like her, her ideas made it through. It was a long time after, though, I will admit.

Grieving is really different for everyone, so she may just need some more time--she'll get there for sure.

Good luck!

What a wonderful idea, Winona! I am sure that she will find that the need to create will help her as she adjusts to this new phase in her life.
What if she were able to take a class somewhere? It may take her a while to get to that point, but it would be a great way to make new firnds (firnds?) friends and new connections for her art. Just a thought. :)
She is very lucky to have you for a mom!

I'll be praying for success in any form! How many of us sew just to relieve our minds of the sadness in our own lives? This young mom has a lot to deal with- somehow busy creative hands hands help with healing so I hope she is able to work with her hands so her heart can begin to mend.
God bless you Winona as you walk through this with her!
Blessings

I think that you doing the research is a smart idea, and that having the information on hand for her when she is ready is smart. I am so glad that she is starting to let you all back in, and that you are helping with the cracks.
Grieving is a tough process and the reality of it comes at you in different directions at different times. She keep being there for her.
