We made the move to Michigan and found a house. It's not in the country but we both love the house and it's a good compromise on my hubby and I's wants. It's a 60's style ranch home on 1.3 arces the house sets back near the edge of a wooded ravine that goes down to the St. Joseph river. It's a beautiful location however, its in Benton Harbor (but a really good neighborhood) so I can not have chickens. BUT the house only had one owner and she had a huge garden that she started 46 years ago so the soil in the garden looks great and I do hope to expand it next year as well as add fruit trees. I also have my own sewing room in the house that has a view of the woods and river so I can watch the wildlife while I sew. I can not wait until I get all the boxes unpacked so that I can start doing the fun work again! |

Thanks Ellen for the leads! I'll have to make a trip out to Sawyer to see what they have. I'll also have to go for a drive down Hollywood rd. |

Hi again-another friend said "I get my garden plants from this guy on Hollywood road." There are several road side stands-some small, some big as you drive around in the country. There is one up my way that opened last year on M63 near Hagar Shore Rd. It isn't opend yet though but had some herbs plants last year.
Penny isn't too far away. One of my sis-in-laws moved to Muskegan and I think it is a couple hours drive, but I haven't been for a visit-bad of me, I know.

Emily welcome to Michigan!!!!!! I'm "up north" from where u are, in Muskegon. Texas wow... that is a real big move!!! I love Michigan cold and all, the change in the seasons give us the spice in life. I love to garden as well its a huge thing around here. Keep in touch we will have to swap notes.

Ellen, I do have a question for you! Since you are in the area you might be able to help me. I was wondering if there is a good gardening store in the area that carries a good selection of organic gardening supplies. I'm just not having much luck at the box stores. I know that I'm spoiled with the local place I went to in Texas but I'm just hoping to find a good one here in Michigan.

Emily- I would sacrifice chickens for a lovingly tended garden spot as well! Your new home sounds perfect. :) Congratulations!

Congratulation Emily-you are in my area. Beautiful here especially along the St. Joseph river. We are getting ready to move though to NC as soon as our place sells. Good luck with your unpacking and getting settled in. We have enjoyed living in this area for many years but now are ready for a warmer climate.
