Ok I am getting mixed answers from people I know on what size septic tank we should get for our house. I read on-line that we should have at least a 1500 gal tank for a three bedroom/ 3 bath home. However my brother has a 5 bedroom 2 bath home and swears his tank is only 500 gal and he and his DW raised 3 girls and never had a problem with his tank being so small. He does have a separate tank or something for his washing machine and kitchen gray water and I dont know how big that is. Others have told me 1000 gal should be more than big enough since it is just me and hubby now. I suppose that if we hire it done the people doing it will have a recommendation for what size we need and I guess there is probably a standard code that the contractor goes by. Believe it or not we checked and we dont have to have a permit or inspection in our county to have something like this done.

I just want to make sure we get one that is big enough without being way too big. Thanks for your imput in advance.

Out here in Snohomish county a 3 bedroom house needs a 1000gal tank. I don't know about where you live. I would call the county sanitation because when you have your house inspected if you don't have the right size you could be in trouble.
when we added 2 bedrooms onto our house we listed one as a sewing room but when the inspector came out he said anytime you add a room and have a closet in it it is considered a bedroom but he let us stay with the septic we had. I would go the safe way and call the county. MB
