We went to Kentucky for a church homecoming, and took some time to check out properties near Irvine that we saw on Zillow. Somehow our GPS got confused in the mountains, but we found the property I had my eye on purely by accident. It is everything that I want - a view, quiet, and a small house. The only problem is that we aren't ready to retire for anot her couple years, and can't afford two mortgages. I hope the LORD will keep it for us!

I am certain that we will get our jobs, it would be very hard to replace either of us.
In the meantime I am writing to penpals, quilting and cleaning.

Vanessa, you will have to keep us posted on if they start the newspaper back up. Would you get your job back if so?

Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you got till it's gone.
People are realizing how important the newspaper is in the county. A county official is contacting my boss to see about reopening as a non profit, and the landlord of our office said he'd waive rent for the rest of the year.
At least today I cleaned out my fridge, it needed it.

Oh Vanessa, I am so sorry to hear about your job. Hopefully this new vacation will be good for you and you can enjoy yourself. I hope your co-worker can find a new job soon. It's sad she has to deal with this struggle when she only had one year left. Big hugs.

Vanessa -- Condolences on losing your newspaper and congratulations on retirement. It is a hard time for newspapers large and small now. Ours is now half the size and costs twice as much. People are getting the big news via tv and internet but the local news and the feeling of community is being lost. On the other hand, retirement is great.

God has decided to close one chapter in my life. My boss came in to the newspaper office today and told my coworker and I that our paper and his other one in Pendleton County, are suspended. Costs have gone up and advertising is down. He held out the possibility of resuming the papers.

I have mixed feelings- we will be ok, but my coworker needs a new job quickly. The paper has been published under different owners since 1927 and i will miss covering the county's news. On the other hand, I will finally be able to relax and enjoy a vacation.

I have to tell you about my sweetie. During a big storm, one of my clothesline posts was damaged. He's never liked the clothesline, but today he is taking down the old ones and will install new posts.
I will keep him.

It seems that things break down when I'm on my own. Today I wandered downstairs for quality time with my cat, when I saw water on the floor. We had an on-demand water heater installed and it sprung a leak. I turned it off, unplugged it and turned off the water. Then I mopped and turned on the dehumidifier. Luckily it hadn't spread too far, but there's probably water under the cabinets.
My husband is in Florida dog sitting, and he had been concerned about the water heater breaking. It's just machine malevolence that made it go kaput the day before he returns.

I'm looking over a field but I'm not on the Farm. My daughter and I are at a Cincinnati Reds game.

Because the new French doors face west, we needed a practical solution to block sunlight. I found blackout fabric a perfect solution. You can cut it to fit, and it is secured with velcro and magnets. Best of all, you can remove it easily and the doors can still be opened when they are pn the windows.

Breakfast is overnight waffles, lovely yeasty bits of heaven. It amazes me that my husband prefers Eggos. Eggos are fine, but nothin' says lovin like home made. Recipe available upon request.

You never miss something until it's gone, like electricity. We lost it around 4 am Thursday and got it back at 9 pm. Thank goodness for the utility workers who repaired the power lines. We're a rural county so conveniences are a long drive away.
I'm thinking of using the logs from our fallen branches to make a small log cabin.

On Saturday we took a trip up to Jungle Jims at Eastgate and I got a 6 month supply of international teas. We also got some cheese, jars of Polish pickled vegetables and red cabbage, and a heavy duty bird feeder. Later I attended a Memorial day ceremony at our Courthouse.
Today were heading to Dayton KY for a memorial day parade..

What a hoot! Reminds me of when our school did donkey basketball. The varsity basket ball team vs some of the teachers. I can't tell you who won, but I still remember the star varsity player and one teacher on donkeys that didn't want to move!
