Posted - Jan 03 2007 : 5:33:39 PM Ok...In order to give an appropriate name you need some facts. We want the farm to have a name and are completely stumped..Can you help me?
We have a four acre farm...there are lots of maple trees, a little shed "city"(cute little outbiuldings actually) lots of mud...very wet here, it has a winding road right of way into the property, we will have chickens and rabbits in the spring...the shed"coop" is being built, pigs, he is a logger so there is lumber abundance which makes lots of sawdust and shavings, a sawmill, lots of mud, we have herbal garden, we have placed order for 20 fruit trees which will line the outside of the property, a nice garden...which is never big enough, we have pasture earmarked for dexter cow, but not here yet..Last name begins with "W".
I know that its not much to go by, but I would love to have some farmgirl creativity. I want this so badly that I am going to send out a special gift if we get lucky to find a name. No groves...they are abundant in our area...and no meadows...more like muddows...lol
Any help would be appreciated...from cute and silly to serious...it doesnt matter....just throw em at me.

Posted - Jan 07 2007 : 5:35:48 PM That was a great choice..it was sure fun to read the others. I don't have a name for our little mini farm either...maybe someday. I remember looking at a place to buy years ago..didn't buy it..but it was so near the freeway and chaotic noise and you turned a corner..turned in a lane and there was one of the big signs over the drive that said "Happy Hollow". You turned through some trees and there it was..old and cozy and protected by lots of trees..you forgot the freeway was so close and it was it's own little world. I would love to have a "Happy Hollow" someday. For right now this place is more of a little Funny Farm.

I really like "the Muddows" references...esp Little farm on the muddows...last in. But someone reminded me that it is my hearts desire and i do love the little farm very much. Thanks again to all the ladies for your creativity.

Posted - Jan 04 2007 : 9:01:37 PM This is great to hear all of these fun names! We lived in a house once that was in the middle of a city block, but still had all of its old-growth trees and an irrigation canal running through it with a long tree-tunnel of a drive to get to the house. I loved it. My mom named it "Quail Crossing," and I've always liked that one. What about "Birdi's Nest?" Okay, maybe just the coop could be named that.... I still need to name my farm, too, and you all are spurring on some great ideas!

Posted - Jan 04 2007 : 1:48:22 PM Well, girls from Alaska are naturally brilliant. ;) What cool suggestions from everyone! I feel like naming my little suburban house now! My husband has a flair for naming dogs, especially St. Bernards, should anyone need further naming services from Alaska.

Posted - Jan 03 2007 : 11:30:05 PM W____ Woods <--your last name Rambling Road Ranch Meandering Lane I really like that word 'meandering', but the first pairing I thought of was Meandering Maples...and it gave me silly mental pictures of trees wandering to and fro...like the Ents in Lord of the Rings... Is the road to your property narrow? If so, you could use the word 'wynd', which means narrow lane or alley... Meandering Wynd or W____'s Wynd (use your last name)
Breaking Wynd probably wouldn't go over so well, though LOL

Posted - Jan 03 2007 : 7:04:33 PM The first phrase that caught my eye was, Four Acre Farm. You have a lot going on, and maybe will settle on one specialty in the future. Keeping the farm name generic will apply to anything you may be doing. Four Acre Farm "rolls off the tongue" and is easily remembered.
