Hi ladies!
It's my first time gardening without the direct assistance of a more seasoned gardener. Plus, I am in a different state with a slightly different climate.
DH and I started some seeds using the Jiffy Greenhouse with a plastic dome top. We have pets, 3 of whom are cats, so we were concerned about leaving the boxes indoors 100% of the time. We don't have any sunny or warm spaces that are not taken over by a pet.
According to the directions on the greenhouses, the lid is to stay on, and they are to be placed in a warm space NOT in direct sunlight. We have a shady spot on our porch where we've been keeping them by day until the sun starts to go down. Then we put them in a closet until the next day (to keep pets out of them).
I brought the boxes in about an hour ago. One dome lid was carried off by the wind, despite the paper-weights we put on top. I looked all over the yard, and even at my neighbors' yards and cannot find it. What do I do? The florist shop nearby is closed, or I'd ask if they could provide a replacement... |

Sweet! Thank you ladies. I haven't taken photos yet, but we awoke yesterday to find that some of ours have sprouted! Beets and catnip so far. Hopefully the cats don't chew my beets before we get home this afternoon...though I don't expect them to do so.

My plants were ok until severe rains/storms last year pretty much wiped out gardens for many of us :(
Looking forward to a re-do this year :)
Teresa, I believe that's true?? I try to leave open and then transplant when the seedlings reach the height of the cover

I have heard that plastic wrap is pretty successful in replacing the plastic lid. But I always thought that once your seeds emerge, you should take the plastic cover off. This prevents dampening off.
Unless of course, if it's still chilly outside and there is a danger of frost!

Thank you very much :). Were your plants okay after your lid flew off? Mine were Beets and Catnip... the beets seemed to be slightly dried out (from the wind), but I watered them a little before putting them to bed.

Laura,
I have a different type, but similar experience. Last year the wind blew the lid off and over the balcony railing......never found it! So odd
Anyway, this year using a plastic wrap .
Good luck to you and hope you are able to get some answers or replacement
