Posted - Mar 14 2014 : 6:53:25 PM We are fairly new to our 1895 farm but this association here has intrigued me recently: http://www.alhfam.org . We are hoping to become Civil War reenactors and I would love to create a similar experience for people wanting to learn about traditional farm life.

Posted - Feb 21 2014 : 05:04:32 AM We are doing a vacation rental of our farmhouse part of the year. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1116650. We live in a rustic building, outhouse, outdoor shower when we rent the house. This has enabled us to finally work full time just farming. We really like sharing the off grid, fresh farm products, farm life experience with people. It takes a lot of time, but the house is still ours, and the guests through airbnb have just been wonderful.

Posted - Feb 18 2014 : 08:30:29 AM We missed our kids and grandkids out west. We were in Arkansas and the nearest kid was in Colorado. I wasn't all that sad to leave, as some guests can act VERY entitled. I loved the innkeeper aspect of making the breakfast and being helpful. I didn't enjoy the snippiness of people who wanted to bring their cats and dogs, despite the fact we stated in "no pets" in our brochure and online. We also got people who wanted to bring the in-laws, outlaws, six grandkids and several friends to a 3-room inn! All in all, I'm a much better guest than I am a host.

Posted - Feb 16 2014 : 03:58:44 AM We did a B&B, converting a basement apartment for our quarters and the upstairs for guests. The meals featured food from the farm and we featured the local attractions (canoeing, hiking, fishing, crystal digging) in our advertising. It was fun, but we sold the place and moved about 2 years after. Sadly, it's sitting empty now because the new owners didn't want a b&b and the couldn't find work.

Posted - Feb 15 2014 : 05:01:34 AM We are leaning toward Southern MO. An hour or so from Branson, Seymour/ Mansfield area. We would love to offer Heritage skills classes, organic produce, pastured meats, and raw milk, at least. Possibly offering birthday parties and wedding space. Likely a cabin or two with breakfast maybe. Farm to fork meals and seasonal events oike craft shows would be wonderful!! Any experience? ?
