Hello Farmgirls, well, I just got a bit of good news. I've been eyeing up a peice property near me that I figured I'd NEVER be able to afford. You could buy an entire farm elsewhere for what they want for ONE acre in N.J. The're selling eight acres but I only want one right now. I called about it and they said no deal, they want to sell all 8 acres together and people w/ money will buy it & turn it into condos or something. I was devistated. I want a community garden. I called again for the heck of it after talking to someone from the ext. program. I spoke w/ a different person who likes the idea. He said I could possibly make payments on it, start the community garden, sell produce from it & put the money back into the property. ????? I dont know yet but just maybe it might work. My husband is not crazy about it because werein a mobile home were renting and he'd like our home first to put on our own 2 acres. I told him it's a start. I'll let you know what happens. Im trying not to get to anxious. Michele

Hi Michele I listed this in an email that I sent under "Older Farm Girls" but wanted to be certain that you had this information in case you missed the other listing.

I recently read that the Harry Chapin Foundation 631 423 7558 will provide funding for individual farmers or community gardens. It was stated that they will give up to $10,000.

I hope that this helps you.

Best wishes
Connie
