Well, ladies, I had hoped to be able to post today that our house was framed, but can't. Our contractor is so behind on the other house (darn that spoiled young couple that can't make a decision and then when they do they change their mind and when they do change it again after they see the finished product!), so he & his helper and my dh were going to frame it up this past weekend. We had non-stop rain (and very severe weather -- an entire small town was wiped out about 20 mi from us) and they couldn't work at all. DH is supposed to work this weekend, but if the contractor says he'll do it this weekend, dh will take 3 vacation days and work on the house with them. So if the weather holds out, I may have a framed-up house by Monday. Please keep your fingers crossed for us!

On a side note, I'm not upset at all, and surprisingly, I don't even feel very disappointed. I knew all week it was supposed to rain, so I tried not to get my hopes up. But the main reason is that when I look at what happened to the people in that little community, my situation is nothing compared to theirs! One of the ladies was interviewed on the news last night. She is in her early 60's and has lived in her home all her life. It was her parents' home and then she & her dh moved in and took care of her mother when they got married. It was built by her grandfather or great-grandfather (I forget which) and other family members, was filled with pictures and momentos, antiques handed down, etc., and she lost EVERYTHING! That woman was standing there with a smile on her face, talking about how she had lost so many "things" but that everyone was okay and that in the midst of this great loss there were so many blessings!! What an attitude. She said she's sorry, of course, that her grandchildren and future generations won't have the pictures, etc., etc., but that she focuses on what she has, not what she's lost. A very wise woman!

Thanks for your kind words and reminders that this is really normal. I keep telling myself that, but there are days I almost hold my breath that something else might happen (which it did, yesterday, just not about the house -- see my post under the pet/livestock forum).

The contractor can't work on it this weekend, so dh isn't going to take off work. Good news financially, not so good physically. But that's okay. The plan is to start the following week, so hopefully a week from now the contractor will be working on our house full time (and dh helping when he's off work).

Mary Kay is going fine, but slow. I'm just not the salesperson type and don't promote myself to others very well. I'd love to have a core group of customers and not ever, ever have to do workshops with people I don't know. Just get together with those ladies that order from me and do fun things like "Trading Faces" -- pairs of friends (2 - 4 pairs) come and each lady picks out the cosmetics -- colors, etc-- for her friend, the other half of the pair. We could also do a hand & feet "spa" session (minus the whirlpool thingy). That sort of thing. But I'm not in a huge hurry and am perfectly satisified for my business to grow slowly. Too fast and I may not have the skills, etc., needed. Slow & steady is fine with me.

As I was reading your post Pattie I was thinking exactly what you were. Isn't it funny how someone else's situation so many times gives us perspective? Your attitude is great, keep it up and before you know it you will have a lovely new home. We built 10 years ago, with many setbacks. Our finishing guy was so wonderful & peaceful...his attitude was just not to let things get to him. He said it doesn't do him any good to get upset. So he just didn't. He did beautiful work by the way. Soon we will all be sending you new home blessings!

I for one pattie will be so happy for you when you are in that house and we can all see pictures and you are settled. You sure are stronger then I'am, I would be in a home by now, and it wouldn't be the one I was building. Hope things start going along at a faster pace for you so you can start seeing big results.

I've been wondering about your house, Patti. I'm sorry it's been held up once again. Does it help at all to know that your experience with having everything on hold........ is absolutely normal? It seems very seldom that builders can be on schedule. My DH was a contractor when we got married, so I'm aware of how little control they have over their schedule. I, too, grieve over the loss of this lady in your news, but rejoice in her attitude. What a great spirit.

How about an update on the Mary Kay or any other business you've entered? I pray for you and am so glad for your peace.

Love,
Ann

How sad that she lost everything - but what a peaceful attitude she has. She truly knows what is important in life - such a blessing.
