Ok Ladies, So from were we move so much we are not able to settle down on a farm an have animals, We were gone to be here is the joplin MO, area for 3 years. we found a 16 ac farm for rent. we are aloud to have 2 cow or 2 horses, they also dont mind if we have chickens so Im gowing to get some chicken, but im not sure what kind to get there are so many. I've thought about the Orpington an the Brahma. Thats about as far as ive went with it any ideas would be great.Ive also got the book A Chicken in Every Yard. its been helpful id like some( not sure what to call it, LOL) "covertational info" were i can talk about it. i want to be a lil more informed then gowing in there an just knowing i want chicken.

I love my red sexlinks for eggs (extra large brown and lots of double yolks), they are not broody, they are gentle and even the roo is, They lay all year long, slow down very little in the winter, or during molt...

We have Isa Browns that I'm really fond of, they're good layers and docile and friendly. I haven't been as happy with the New Hampshire or Rhode Island Reds, they haven't been as hearty or as personable. Congratulations on finding a place where you can have a few critters!

I'm a fan of the orpingtons and Brahmas too. Good choices.

Excuse the mess & the noise, my children are making happy memories
