We have received the contractors drawing for the house we are rebuilding . As we mark up, erase and remark how we want things, I was thinking I should ask for ideas. We are actually going with a smaller footprint than the original house. It was build weird and very spread out. We decided that in an effort to save energy and costs, we really didn't need as big of space as before.

If you were building from scratch, what would you absolutely have to have included in your plans?

We are already making the kitchen bigger and the living room smaller.

The main part of our old farm house that we bought was build in 1890. The center of the house is the old house. They moved the house in 1960 closed to what was a dirt road. what we found out was our hallway was a back porch including the bathroom that we just remodeled. When we took down the old wall in the bathroom we found a opening to the house where the back door was. When we took down a wall in the master room which was part of the 1890 home there was a big open space and an old fire wall. Once there was a fire place that warmed the 3 room house it was a opened fireplace that could be seem in 2 rooms. When they moved the house they dropped the chimmey through the floor, capped off the top and roofed over the opening. We are going to chip these old clay bricks down that lead all the way up to a big attic. The house is very strong and build well. Very solid. We are going to add another open fire place. The oddest thing about the old homes were no closets so we are adding one to each bedroom. I talk the old man that had grew upin this home. He said his parents and uncle had build this home and lived here until they died. Thay raised their 3 sons here. I can feel the love evertime I walk into the kitchen. He grew helping his Dad farm this land and he told me he remembers when the house was moved and how excited his mom was to have a real sink and bathroom. He also told me he remembers my big kitchen when it had nothing but shelfs one table a old tub for a sink and his mom the day she had a real kitchen. He is 94 years old now.We are spending alot of money and time to remodel. We have a new front porch across the front of the house with big pecans trees, I think about those boys climbing those old tree evrythime I sit on my front porch swing. I know God has blessed this home where once the love of a man and wife and their 3 sons lived.I am proud to call their home mine.

Hi ladies. Well I still haven't taken a picture of the house! What's wrong with me? Well, I leave just as the sun is coming up and get home waaaaaaaay after dark. We did finally put a tree up. Also had to have the contractor come out and fix a few things that broke. We went the entire month of October and November without using the furnace - only the fire place. The bathroom got kinda cold so I put a small milkhouse heater in there just to take the chill off. I want to continue to use the fireplace, but we can't currently both at the same time because of drafting. The fireplace doesn't have any doors yet, just a screen so when the furnace kicks on it pulls the smoke back into the house. Found out the hard way on that one. DUH!

I think a nice extra would be a Sunroom, (Florida room, 3 seasons room, depending on your area of the country). They are so nice and can be used for so many things. I am sure you would enjoy it now, or maybe later. For now you could plan the area for the door so that later you can add the room.
Best Wishes,
Jenne

If it would quit raining, I would post a picture before all the leaves are off the trees. We are planning on an open house this weekend. I wish you all could be there.

Woo hoo! It's down and we have moved in. Most of our furniture was delivered on Friday, but we are still waiting for our bed and another dresser. We sat on lawn furniture for about 4 weeks. I am still sleeping on a twin mattress on the floor in Lliam's room, but hey, I'm home!

Getting closer. The floors have been tiled, the front of the fireplace is just about done. The interior doors are hung. Trim work will be done this weekend. Cabinets will be set in the next few days. The electrician should be starting on the lights by Friday. So close, yet still so far!

Yay! The interior is completely painted. We did it! The contractor came out on Sunday when we were finishing up and said that we might be able to settle in hopefully in about 5 weeks! They also started the wrap-around porch today! It was supposed to stop at the chimney, but the contractor said they were going to take it all the way to the side entry for no extra charge! I love it!

Also found out that we have locks on the doors now. We are meeting the tile guy at 730 pm tonight to finalize placement of tile.

Well isn't that frustrating - the yellow didn't cover very well and had to use the whole gallon on the pantry. The pink did the same thing and now I have to buy 2 more gallons (one of each) I may have to buy more of the sky blue for the main bathroom too because somehow one of our helpers used almost a whole gallon on on the tiny half bath. He painted all way down to the floor where the vanity goes. Live and learn.

Otherwise the whole house is painted inside save for some touch ups where the brushes came in contact with the ceiling. OOPS! Give me a q-tip and some white paint and I will fix it.

The roofers were there today for about an hour and had to leave due to the heat. It was 88 at 9 am. We are looking at another record breaking day of 103 here. Maybe next week will be a bit cooler - at least that is what is being forecast.

Sorry about the rain dripping in the house. Better to find it out now, when it is fixable. Can't wait for y'all to move in.

HUGE BUMMER! With all the rockin' and rollin' over the weeked (storms), the fireplace/chimney developed leaks and the walls around it will have to be replaced along with a huge section of ceiling. The rest of the house is fine. It just made me sick to walk in on Saturday and see water dripping and the floor soaked. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

We have purchased all the paint and should be able to paint very soon.
Kitchen - soft green
Laundry/pantry - sunny yellow
Main bathroom & half bath - sky blue
Living room /hall - wet sand
Master bedroom - lavender
Master bath - some shade of lavender - depends on what looks best with tile
Guest room - pale pink
Lliam's Room - Purple and lime green. He wanted the whole room purple - we compromised on 1 wall and rest lime green.
One wall in the dining room will be spun gold. It looks good with the living room color and allows for separation of the living room and dining room.

The internal part of the fire place is done. Next will be stacked stone for the front part. I was told yesterday the ceiling has been textured and we supposedly can paint this week.
