Hi I'm Ronee and I homeschool 3 out of 5 of my kids :) I have a 11,7,5,3 and 1 year old. Does anyone here homeschool?

I also homeschool. I have a dd. and she hasn't stepped foot in a school room. Unless you count Sunday school. She is now almost 15 and loves it. We moved to our place in Idaho about 3 yrs ago from California for a much better life and she has bloomed in a way that only God can do. She is amazing.
She is working hard on graduating early so she can concentrate on the things she wants to expand on. She is such a blessing to us.

We are homeschoolers! We are currently in our third "official" year, though I dd totschool and preschool with my oldest as well. He is now on the tail end of 2nd grade. I also have a kindergartener and toddler. Icant imagine doing it any other way!

I took Artificial Food color/ flavor and HFCS out. I want to try gluten, b/c your story. I just need to bite the bullet. :/

Alicia - have you ever tried taking Isabelle or Gabrielle off any foods to see if food allergies are causing their ADHD? I know Sawyer has some so it is very possible they do as well that is contributing to it.... gluten, sugar, and food dyes are often times contributors, though different people can have different triggers. I know you eat pretty healthy, and I think are dairy free due to Sawyer, so maybe try going gluten free for a5-6 weeks and see if it helps!?!? What do you think?

Hi! I am Alicia. My DH's Matt (been together since we were 16, rough at times ), we have 4 children; Isabelle (11), Gabriel (3), Sawyer (18mo), and Levi (our Angel, passed away at 16 mo old, would be 8 in May). I pulled Isabelle middle of 4th grade to homeschool. I had always wanted to hs, but Matt didn't like the idea. But she was in a class of 32, ADHD, and about 6 other children with fairly severe learning disabilities, including 1 with non-verbal autism, only an aide for about 4 hrs a day and I didn't see how she could thrive. We pulled her, took her off meds and we aren't working ahead by any means, but she is doing ok. She is VERY hard to keep on task, no matter how much I change up her schedule to make it more accomodating. I started PreS with Gabriel (and Sawyer, b/c he is always there) this year. Nothing too serious. ABC Mouse, BFIAR, ...But he has ADHD as well, and calming him down has been an issue. I am working with essential oils to help him and happy to say they help some! I will continue to work on mixtures to see if something works better. We live on our 2 acre "hobby farm" (which I often write about here and would LOVE FOLLOWERS! http://themostlycrunchyfarmgirl.wordpress.com) in the SE corner of Pike Co and it plays a role in our education. Isabelle raises rabbits for a business project and a bit of science, too. We also have 2 goats and chickens, cats, and a dog. Day-to-day life plays a BIG role in our "classroom". We are what you call eclectic homeschoolers. I pick and choose curriculum, throw in a bit of unschooling in some aspects. It works for us.

I also homeschooled my 2 from ages 10 & 11 till out of school. Both are doing great, now have familes, son owned and sold a business he started up and both are very independent on their own.

I just wanted to throw my hat in the ring as Homeschoolers. I have 3 teenagers who have always been homeschooled and all 3 love it! I will be graduating the oldest 2 in 4 years, I guess. Strange. |

Hi Ladies! We homeschool! 3 boys, 8,5 and 4. Also, I WAS homeschooled and I can assure you all I am very normal and well adjusted lol. I NEVER wanted to homeschool but having children changes everything. I love having them home with me and learning right beside them. We are participating in a once a week co-op, part Classical Conversations, part Classically Catholic Memory. It is really nice to have something once a week to go to with other homeschool families, although at first I wasn't so sure. I have a problem with committment...:)

I congratulate you and compliment you in your decision to homeschool.
It shows the seriousness of your dedication to do the best for your children.
We homeschooled our 3 children until high school and it was a good decision. They are capable adults, each doing well in their personal lives, ages 28, 30, and 31.
I always recommend that anyone home schooling provide for opportunities to meet and interact with non-homeschooled kids; church activities, 4-H, scouting. We were very lucky to be in a school district that encouraged connections and invited homeschoolers to participate in activities, music, sports, and selected classes if they wanted to do so.

Hi Ladies,
I also homeshool. Our youngest is now 14 and has never been in school. Likewise is brother who is now seventeen was homeschooled all the way through. The seventeen year old started at our local college last year at 16. He has done very well. However, he lives at home and my husband takes him to and I pick him up most days.
I am very excited to get together with other homeschoolers. In fact I was just thinking yesterday that I needed some encouragement. I want to fall in love with homeschooling again. Starting to get a little tired here. So very thankful to find you all today. I have not been on the chat room for a couple of months and just happened to get on today. Funny how God works like that.

You're in good company here as there are a lot of homeschoolers. Plus, I'd like to think we've been a good encouragment to those questioning whether to homeschool and looking into the idea. We have a 15 year old son, 12 year old daughter, and 5 year old that I am beginning to school. The area in which we live, East TN, is very homeschool friendly. Many places, especially the museums and amusement areas in Knoxville/Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg/Smoky Mountains, have learned to take advantage of the large homeschooling population here and offer 50% off admission and homeschool days.

I decided to homeschool because I was tired of the poor quality of education, the violence, the drugs, etc. I pulled my daughter from a Christian school last Nov. I guess if you pay the monthly bill anyone can go there. Most I am sorry to say were rejects from the public school. Yikes. Plus my daughter is very bright and advanced. She does very well at home. Her desire to learn is so much brighter again. We love it. Wouldn't trade it for the world. It isn't always easy, but it is all worth it.

Homeschooled the two youngest for the last 6 years. the oldest one is dual enrolled at the state college. He will be 17 next month and passed the entrance exam last August. He loves being on campus. He is still in high school as a homeschooler, but he takes a full load of regular college classes. He gets credit for them toward his AA and towards his high school transcript..if I was inclined to make one. ANYWAY... Both boys did public school. The oldest finished 5th grade, and the youngest finished 1st grade. I pulled them out because the social situation was violent. The oldest suffered greatly from bullying. His self-esteem was almost gone. He had no friends. I knew they would eat him alive in Middle School. Six months into homeschooling, he was smiling, happy, learning, and he had friends calling for him and looking for him at events. Here in Florida we have standardized tests the students have to pass, regardless of their classroom grade. The stress in unbelievable. The districts curriculum was based around the test, the information on the test and how to take the test. The well rounded education was gone. As home schoolers, we don't have to take that crazy test.

Hi ALL -- I'm a grandma and am trying to get my kids to homeschool. The government schools are a far cry from what they used to be. The USA once had really good education, but that was back when the control was at the local level. Now we are WAY down the list, as far as how our children test -- many other countries are ahead of us. I want my grandkids to have an excellent education and in order to get that, I feel the best way is schooling at home. I am interested in the reasons you all decided to go the homeschool route. PLEASE share, if you would. I have seen so many homeschooled children in the past several years that are head and shoulders beyond what the government education system would have provided. (manners, socialization, science, math and reading skills WAY better.) Grandma in WA state.
This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it! |

Yes I homeschool both my boys (almost 8 and almost 9). Glad to meet you! We just moved and now we are having the "fun" of finding the homeschoolers in our new town. There's a lot of them apparently...it just takes some work to find them!
