Posted - Mar 03 2011 : 12:28:33 PM Hello everyone.
I'm considering living on an organic farm. A separate, self-contained dwelling that includes a bathroom and kitchen is what I would want. I don't want to own or work a farm, but I would like to live on a farm. Being in the country, near the rhythm of farm life, is in my bones, and it's high time I let those bones speak. Living in a locale with significant elevation (at least 5,000 feet) feels best.
Thanks for whatever suggestions you might have about how to go about safely screening for such an arrangement. Compatibility would be a major issue. I'm a private person, and while I enjoy and get along with all types of folks, I am also independent, accustomed to coming and going as I need to.
Thanks for helping this Farmgirl-of-the-Heart make the connections.
Regards to all, birchtree |

Posted - Mar 05 2011 : 10:59:13 AM Thanks for your e-mail. I'm sure with a little searching, the right thing will come up for you. As far as etsy goes, you and your friend should check it out. It is a wonderful site similar to ebay but where items must fall into a handmade, vintage or supply category. So many creative sellers. Good luck with all your research and possible changes.

Posted - Mar 04 2011 : 5:10:58 PM Hi Ann,
Thanks for your welcoming note and suggestion. I did just recently discover Local Harvest and will do more research there. Right now I live in the Southwest, but am not committed to remaining here. What you describe about your neighbor's carriage house sounds wonderful. I would also consider the UK, for at least a trial period of time. Thanks again for your thoughts and encouragement. I continue to welcome all suggestions.
Blessings, birchtree

Posted - Mar 03 2011 : 2:35:02 PM Hi there and Welcome.
Are you looking for a particular area of the USA or world? You might want to check out Local Harvest in their chat section. You just might find what you are looking for. (www.localharvest.org). I'm sure you can find the right thing with a little searching. Even my neighbor rents out her carriage house that is just a small part of her 10 acre farm. The lady who rents it is just a great neighbor who doesn't do anything on the farm but live there in her own separate space. Good luck.
