Okay....Day 2 for this farmgirl and her GYNORMUS head cold.

Any tried and true cold remedies to suggest?

I am trying liquids, but geez Louise I'm in the bathroom every 20-minutes.

My throat feels gummy, my tonsils are red and I had a fever around 3:00 this morning.

I NEVER get colds but I have one now.

What do you do when you have a head cold???

....Talk to me ladies!

Wow Farmgirl sisters are so very smart!

Thanks for the most useful info. Going to put Elderberry and Zinc on my shopping list.

Elderberry is awesome. One of my grandmas used to make a teacup of lemon juice, honey and a shot of liquor that actually worked very well.

I agree with both elderberry and zinc. I buy an organic combo of the two and it has done wonders for me.

I hope you stay healthy for the rest of the year!

Audrey....I have been "out" over a week now but I am feeling much, much better thank you!

This one really threw me because I NEVER get sick-must have been building up for a couple of years.

Take care dear farm girls and heed the above advice!

I second the elderberries, with Kris. Can't say enough good stuff about them. We pick wild ones, and juice.

I second the zinc. Felt my nose feel abit scratchy yesterday and I started sucking on the zinc lozenges. So far I still have a scratchy nose but it hasn't blossomed into a bad head cold. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Melody, use this as the perfect excuse to get some much deserved rest! I'll pray for a speedy recovery for you!

You need to start taking elderberry syrup. I have been making it myself and have been taking a T. every day and have not been sick at all. My grands take it too. You can buy it or get the berries and make it so much cheaper. It really helps keep colds, flu, sore throats away. I bought my organic berries from Frontier for just $10. a pound. If you read about elderberries, they are full of all kinds of great stuff.

Up your doses of vitamins C, D and Zinc! Zinc is extremely powerful in helping kick the colds and flu! If I remember right, Vitamin C needs D to work, and Vitamin D is also very powerful for your immune system.

I also like swallowing the juice from canned peaches (I know- random) but it is about the right consistency to coat the throat and helps soothe the stomach a bit too.

Warm Lemonade with dash or two Cayenne powder helps give the cold a kick :)

My husband gargles with Lavorice (cinnamon flavored mouth wash that's been around forever (ask your druggest). Then he puts Vicks up his nose. It works, especially if used at the beginning of a cold.

Add some honey to the lemonade. It has things in it to help bacterial infections and viruses. I read somewhere that is you cut an onion in half and set it near you it will absorb all the bad stuff. I've never tried it because I don't remember the last time I had a cold or the flu.

Lola...Thank you! I have never tried Hot Lemonade before, but it makes perfect sense and I'll give it a try.

Also, thank you for the extra prayer!

Hi Melody, sorry you are under the weather and hope you are feeling somewhat better. I make hot lemonade and it seems to make me feel better, helps with the scratchy throat, and helps clear the stuffyness and starts the drainage, so have plenty of hankies and/or tissue. I think that the tissues are better at a time like this since you throw them away and sometimes the hanky route has a tendacy to re-infect, leastwise that my thought on it. Hope this will help you. Also the hotter you can sip it the better. Just take good care of youself, I'll send an extra prayer your way for a speedy recovery.

Every day, in every way, I become better and better.
