My husband and I are so busy. I wish I could bring you all out to our ranch for a work day, the problem is we have so many things to do it would be years. I have usually worked off the place, but my husband is so busy and behind that it is all I can do to keep up with everything. We have corrals that need built, cows worked, farming, fencing, landscaping, shop work, mechanic work,horses rode, ect, ect. We live in a rural area and it is very hard to find help.
Do you all feel so busy like this?

Debbie- where in Montana are you again? If you are close enough I would be happy to come out occasionally to help. I would like to learn how to work cattle and would be happy to help with the grunt labor.

Ok Debbie, I think all you need to do is make it known that you are willing to share your farm and you will have someone very excited to do that! I have to wait for husband to retire out in 3 years, and then I could and WOULD consider it very highly, but you will want to find someone before then. Start a new topic with "Share My Farm" as the heading. You may want to ask your husband what he feels is a fair way to "lease" out the space and ranching part. Make sure the people know that you need help all over the farm, it's not just for them to start their own farm.

Ann: Our home is the only one right now, but yes there is room for an additional home.
We have snow right now, it has been cold. |

Hi Debbie,
How big is your ranch?, is there room for an additional living space to be built or brought in? (yurt or trailer?)

Hi Debbie, I know what you mean. We have 2 businesses plus a farm to keep up. Some times I am so tired at night that after I get the supper dishes washed up about 8:30 I get ready for bed and will lie down on the bed thinking I will just lay there a few minutes to rest up and before I know it I am fast asleep. This is about 3 nights out of the week. I will be 50 this year and seem to be slowing down a little. My garden was not very big this fall. My husband ask what happened to your fall garden. I told him I don't know I just could'nt get it all planted this year. Maybe I need to start taking some vitamins!! I would love to see your ranch!!

Ann,
We would welcome a family or person to come in. We would even be willing to work out something with them to run a few cattle of their own. We are so rural and our place is not fancy.

Have you considered finding another family who wants to farm to help you out? I really believe that we are made better by the help of likeminded people. Just look how successful MJF is with us Farmgirls!

You are so right, "those of us that are busy do keep finding more to do." We also like to keep busy. I just wish we had some help at times. After reading my post, it almost reads like I am complaining and I'm not, I just at times feel overwhelmed. I also need to count my blessings. Your place sounds beautiful.

We're both retired. We have a huge garden,orchard and vineyard and I can and freeze a lot. DH does woodworking for others and we have actually been building/expanding and fixing our house for about 30 years now! I'd rather be busy than bored but we are always finding things to do. I sometimes wonder, how did we do it all when we worked, when we had kids at home and homeschooled? The truth is that those of us who are busy keep finding more to do. I occasionally wonder how to simplify but I can't think of anything we do that I'd give up willingly. Just remember that family is important and kids grow up way to fast. Be sure to get in fun times and memories with your family.
