Is there a great place to search through land/houses/homesteads? We are wanting to move to about 5 acres+ and would love to find something with trees and a river/lake nearby (running through the land would be even better.
Any ideas?

I tried to find a web-site for all farm link programs but it seems they do it state by state. If you search it just put in farm link for whatever your state is. I did it for a few of them & it comes up. It is a good way to start, it gives you a chance to see if it's the way you want to go and you won't really lose anything plus you gain experience. lvg4him, also try your county COOPERATIVE EXTENTION, most every state has it and most states have a farm-link program. You fill out an application, say you want 5 acres to farm w/ veggies & goats. They link you to someone who may have the land but can't farm it anymore for whatever reason. Sometimes the person will front you the money, you do the work and they act as managers. Also there are options to buy the land. I will try to find the web-site & post it.

I found out about landsofamerica.com by searching www.cowboy.com. All of their listings are on there too. They have I think almost 10,000 farms and ranches for sale. Does anyone know any other good land websites like around Alabama and Mississippi or Louisiana? |

One I search almost daily now is www.landsofamerica.com. It seems like they add over 100 new properties a day. |

My husband and I are also looking for a new place with more than 10 acres, with mountains and trees. We are looking in N. Idaho, NW Montana, or even E. Washington. I have come across a lot of sites. So if you are looking in these areas, let me know...I have lots of those. The ones I list below are for all over the US.
If you aren't sure what area is right for you, you can start with a survey at
www.findyourspot.com. It is a really great site. It gives you a quiz to take on your likes and dislikes, and then gives you places that may be best suited for what you are looking for. It gives detailed stats, descriptions, weather, housing, etc. It is pretty neat.
The sites listed in the previous posts, I use all the time also. They are great. Some other sites that I have found helpful that you can check out are:
www.city-data.com (gives stats about lots of areas)
www.elandusa.com
www.ffs.cc (can get bank forclosure properties)

Also....here is another great site! You can search by state, by land use (dairy, fruit, grain, etc) or by price. Some of the listings have awesome slide shows.

My parents have 6 acres for sale part wooded/part pasture with two I think fresh water springs but then this in Tennessee!!

I know that most magazines like Mother Earth News and Countryside have some listings in the back for farms/land/homesteads, so you could start there...
Also, maybe a Google search for the area or state that you're looking for?
