Posted - May 05 2006 : 05:50:46 AM Hi everyone, I good friend from work has just recently built a new home on 40 acres. She's going to be adding animals as money allows.
I would like to give her a great house warming gift.
So far I will be giving her the MJ tote and budget mix I have some Caldrea dish soap and some of my home made bar soap. Any other ideas?
Thanks for the help. KarenP

Posted - Jul 31 2006 : 12:07:07 PM Karen - hre's an idea for a housewarming gift that my DH came up with a few years back. His cousin and family moved to a subdivision near us and were looking forward to using their fireplace with real wood...so,
We wrapped up a big box of wooden matches in pretty paper, and gave it to them, then pointed to the stack of firewood we'd also stacked in their driveway! I thought DH was so clever - housewarming, houseWARMing, indeed. Farmgirls might appreciate that!

Posted - Jul 16 2006 : 12:51:04 PM I second the tree idea - maybe a fruit tree? They aren't that expensive and would be a lovely reminder for years to come.
Other ideas - a gift certificate to a bookstore or farmstore so she can get books or items related to the animals she wants to get. |

That sounds a lot like the wedding present we received from my hubby's grandma. She filled up a laundry basket with all kinds of spices and cooking utensils and just odds and ends for the kitchen. It is one of the few gifts that I actually remember receiving. This summer it will be our 10th anniversary. It does make setting up shop really fun.
You could add a few magazines to the gift, some diy mags or seed catalogs or feedstore items. Or maybe a few pretty sacks of cornmeal, sugar, coffe & flour wrapped in pretty fabric for consuming. Or a pretty cake stand that is unique.

Posted - May 05 2006 : 08:24:25 AM I was thinking a garden basket. Put a few less expensive hand tools, seed packets, perhaps a general gardening book that is appropiate for your area, gloves, etc. and tie it up with a pretty bow. You can fill it with just about anything you think she'd enjoy having in her new home. I put one together for a client once who was an avid gardener when she closed escrow on her house. She loved it.

Posted - May 05 2006 : 06:08:14 AM What about an apron? Or a selection of veggie or annual seed packets, and maybe a hand trowel and watering can to go with it. If her 40 acres needs trees, maybe that is a way to go. It something that will be around for years. Or if you aren't sure where her interests lay, maybe a gift certificate. I could go on and on, but maybe this will help spur you one to something great.
