Funny little story. I have put spagnum moss in my flower pots to keep my flowers warmer this spring. Funniest thing over the past couple days I have been finding chunks of moss all over the patio and driveway. Yesterday I was outside and what should appear but a robin. It hopped onto my flower pot and promptly flew away with a big chunk of moss in it's mouth. I watched it and it flew into on of my shrubs. After it flew away again I took a look and it is building a wonderful nest in the shrub made from the moss out of my planters. I had to chuckle at the funny little bird. Aren't they smart.
There wasn't any eggs yet but can't wait till they hatch.

The robin has definitely chosen the nest for its eggs. She is diligently sitting on them. It is so cute to see her head and tail poking out of the top of the nest. Can't wait to see the babies. Also found one of my birdhouses has a momma nesting. I heard noise while I was walking by and sure enough she was in there being busy. I love birds.

Oh my gosh! I found an old nest yesterday that had fallen from our birch - and it was made with LOTS of my boy's hair!! So funny that I just wrote about that! I need to take a picture.

I cut my son's hair outside in spring and leave the trimmings for the birds...reminds me - he needs a haircut! We have a crazy robin that fights with his reflection in all our windows. Silly thing. I'm gonna need to pad the windows with dryer lint....

We have discovered that the little birds take our horse hair after we groom. If we don't clean it up right away the birds have it all cleaned up before dark. They must have really warm nests up there somewhere. They can be very creative if you put out bits of yarn they will work it into the nests too.

I hope your robin will lay eggs in that nest... they are known to make a few nests, then they pick the best one!
I had a robin build a nest on my front door wreath! Of course that was the one it chose to lay eggs in! We didn't use the front door for the entire month, but let me tell you how amazing it was to watch these tiny little birds grow so fast. I took pictures everyday of their progress. Then one day..poof.. gone!
Just watch out for those bluejays, they are beautiful, but vicious.
Take some pictures and post if you get the eggs! :)

I will put the lint out for softness. As of this morning the nest looks pretty complete. We've had bad wind the last couple days but the nest seems okay.

We have several cypress trees in our yard that are full of moss. They birds do take the moss for their nests, and they sometimes drop huge amounts of moss on other trees.
Betty, I also put lint out for the birds. Recycling!

Ingrid, if you put the lint from your dryer out in your flowers, I bet that robin will use it in its nest. Make it soft for the babies.

Ingrid, he was definitely doing some interior designing! I can imagine just how beautiful a moss lined nest could be!
