I am in the middle of building my own website . Nothing fancy I am just using a "Free web page" offered by my Internet provider. It gives me more space to put out my info but I won't have my own domain name . But I already have lots of traffic on the Local harvest website I mentioned in another post and can link them to each other.
I am still looking for ideas and would love to look at other farm sites and how they have served your farm.

Cyndi Thanks for you input. I have seen your site and it is nice.
Unfortunately I can't add HTML code to the links. It is a simple- type the website in a box and a description in another box. So I can't change it. I can't put in Key words either. But right now if you do a google search for garlic farm our farm comes up on Page one (Our state site) and page 2 (Local Harvest) . This new site will be a link on those site"s Pages plus several more. We get a lot of hits from the state site and local harvest but as you know the info is limited on those sites so the can go to this site for more info.
We have not set up a page to order garlic (we harvest in June and it will be avalible August) . We haven't decided yet how we will take orders (maybe from local harvet store) or from this site . Orders we have taken in the past have been thru email/ mail .

I put up a website for the farm January 2004 using yahoo. We've had almost 138,000 hits on our pages (over a 1,000 on our home page last month.)
We did not submit our website to any of the search engines, but we found that being linked on pages that were on search engines (localharvest, realmilk, eatwild, etc) helped place our page. (Type in Muller Farm (not even Muller's Lane Farm) on any of the search engines)
Having the meta tags for searching helps too! In the <HEAD> section, you'll want:
<meta name="ROBOTS" content="INDEX,FOLLOW">
<meta name="rating" content="general">
AND THEN PUT IN YOUR KEYWORDS THAT YOU THINK FOLKS WILL SEARCH ON TO FIND YOUR SITE. OURS HAS IN IT:
<meta name="keywords" Content="Illinois, muller farm, mullers farm, homestead, homesteading, heritage turkeys, heritage turkey, milk soap, soaps, goats milk soap, recipes, raw milk, muller picks, homesteading, heritage poultry, homemade soaps, horse picks, hoof picks, farm tours, century farms, jersey cow, dexter, soap recipes, handcrafted soaps, Illinois, organic, raw milk, rfhs, csa, farmstead, how to, rock falls, carla emery, El Jabón, america's heartland, pbs, america, heartland, education, historical farm, animals, tours, got milk, working farm, vacation farm, Illinois soap, nais, stop national animal id system">

My farm doesn't yet have a website - but I think it's SUCH a great thing that you're making a go of it. I can't wait to see it! Are you doing the "building" yourself? How did you learn how to do it? I'm a little intimidated by the website stuff, although I'm real comfortable with computers in general.
