My mother gave me a call last night as she had been going back and forth about getting this property called "Butterfly Hill". It's absolutely gorgeous with live oak trees with moss hanging down and a gorgeous pond... Of course, it's sort of on a hill... At one time, there was a swing near the pond and a gazebo .. In some strange way, this property has haunted my family for some while and in the very early 90's, we were able to get it briefly (I have some good memories there).... Well, it's up for sale again, and my mom is going to get it.. after going back and forth .. It's really not enough for our whole (immediate) family like we want.. so she was trying to figure out how to make it work ..
She woke up with a total plan in her head as if it came straight from God! She always wanted a place to have weddings, and this place is perfect! She would buy this, and have weddings there, and then go to somewhere around Chappell Hill, Texas .. which is another place we all love(!).. and a place where _I_ would like to be and always told my husband I would love to have my small farm there ... well, mom did too ... so the wedding place would pay for the land for our family! So it looks very positive I just might get my farm WHERE I LOVE here soon enough ... Maybe by next year? Maybe?
Please keep this in your prayers for me!!
I am just hoping for a couple of horses, some goats to make milk and cheese, some chickens, and some gardens ...Now my BIG dream which I doubt is a reality ..is a horse ranch to rehabilitate abused horses... but I am not sure if that is very realistic... Oh, well, we'll see....!

Yes, my mom would like to but there are restrictions because "technically" there is a sort of homeowners association, so to speak, believe it or not, and so we're not sure and wondering if we can work it out!!! Say a prayer! :D

UPDATE : Butterfly Hill DID come through and my parents bought it -- They had it cleared out and it is as gorgeous as ever. I was there yesterday. It is coming along fine. There is an alligator about 3 feet long in the pond!! LOL. They are getting him taken out today and they are starting to put up the fence today and burning the piles that were cut down. I will take photos as soon as I can! |

Oh, thank you, slowly but surely...
The guy selling it keeps going as slow as christmas but I think it's going forward... once they get it surveyed, I believe they are going to start clearing it out to leave the giant oaks and widening the pond...
And I just bought some Tasha Tudor flower seeds I will be holding onto ..hopefully for this! ;) Butterflies galore!

Ann, thank you so much! I WILL take you up on that offer if you will! That would be great.
~~~ I do not know now if Butterfly Hill will happen or not since the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. :( I have a feeling it won't but we are still going to carry on with finding a place and I know Mom will probably continue to try and do her wedding thing as well.
I hate to say this but realistically, I am not sure if we want to be as close to the coastline from now on (as it is).

Do post photos when you can. My neighbor and I were doing quite a bit of research regarding hosting weddings on her 10 acre farm. Our plans are on "hold" due to our husbands and work, but I have some great sites that I could e-mail you for ideas. I know that you are a way's off on this, but it is always good to have goals.

Oh Brooke! I can't wait to see some pictures! I can just imagine you planting lots of butterfly attracting plants so people walk through swarms of butterflies every where!

UPDATE : We are planning on building a house there. Hold your breath... It's going to take time. LOL. I think Mom is planning to do some weddings there. I have some ideas too.
When I go down there. I will take some pictures. However, it needs to be re-cleared out. I'll especially take some photos then.
I just want a place I can grow old at, and pass it on to the kids. Maybe write a book about it ...... Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? "Butterfly Hill" ... :D

Well, Butterfly Hill is in a different place than what would be in Chappell Hill... it's more down south ... but it's exciting! I will give updates as it happens...

That would be great fun. I wish I knew where the property was, but there are so many beautiful places around there, it would be hard to nail down.

Also, the cool thing would be that I would work at Butterfly Hill for Mom as well.
