Out of the blue- I mean really really out of the blue... dh is in negotiations with his biggest client back where we used to live- Astoria, Oregon- well they are in Seaside. Anyway, there is talk of moving package, insurance, good salary (that we could count on), bonuses etc.. My dh said he would never move back ever..
So is there anyone here in this area of Oregon???

Blessings, Debra

I told hubby to negotiate for enough to cover renting a house on the beach.. We have had a very hard year- I could use some serious time at the beach- a vacation!!

My sister and brother lived in Astoria. I spent some time in Astoria while awaiting our adoptions. It is very beautiful. Both of my sibs had views of the river from their homes.
The rain does not seem to hinder any activities. The funnest thing to me was someone washing their window exteriors and it was and had been raining for days.
The summers are beautiful, especially at the beach!

How exciting! I am in Portland, so not too far away from Astoria.
My boyfriend is originally from Nevada and we have spent a decent amount of time there as well.
One of our favorite places to go is Astoria.
It is quite rainy (I recently saw an article that said this was the rainiest place in the U.S.), but it is a wonderful little town.
I go there at least once every couple of months.
And the long beach peninsula across the bridge in Washington is fantastic!
If you're looking for a rental I would suggest Craigslist.
I always keep an eye out on jobs and property in that area "just in case".
Here is the link to the Craigslist for the North Oregon Coast...

Under Housing click on "apts/housing"- you can then refine your search to Astoria
All the best in your moving ventures!

What a wonderful area to live in. I really don't mind the rain once you adjust your mind to it. We humans don't melt and it is so beautiful there. My kids and I camped at Ft. Stevens and they climbed to the top of the Column. We also saw different areas a bit up the Columbia.

I live way inland in the Columbia Basin area. It has its pluses and minuses also. The sandy soil can grow anything, given enough water.

I so envy you. Good luck in your transition.

Hi Debra! We live near Vancouver, WA but go through Astoria a couple of times monthly on our way to beach stays in Ocean Park. I LOVE Astoria! We spend quite a bit of time hanging out etc. there. I can't believe how much it continues to grow. You must miss it terribly even if hubby doesn't :) Would you like some newspapers or real estate packets sent from there? just hollar :)

OOhh Yes, it's beautiful that way. Much different the Silver Springs! MY girlfriend just moved to Washington and she said it's all about the "ambiance", I imagine Astoria like that. I pray for direction and wisdom for you and your family.

He got tired of the rain I suspect. It is a wealthier area- you are either wealthy or not so well off :-)
Jeff has a client who has 3 stores that jeff does the search engine optimization for. The offer is that jeff would work in house fulltime. with that much dedication jeff could help him to triple his sales. So there is a lot of incentive on his part.
It is a beautiful area to live. If you can handle the rain. I loved it personally. House prices are higher but the beauty is amazing.. drive on beaches, state parks, wild blackberries.. and likeminded friends.

Goonies! I love astoria and seaside, never really one for Cannon Beach, not rich enough. I wish I could live there. Why doesn't DH like it? It seems like it might be a hard place to earn a living, a place whee you have to be born into a job.
