We made an offer on a 20 acre farm in the Spokane area on the 4th of July. After quite a bit of drama and delay, I am pleased as punch and tickled pink to announce that we are moving in next Thursday!!!!!! The seller had to delay the closing due to needing his bankrupcy trustee to approve the sale, big oops there... but all has turned out well and we are so delighted to be moving.
I was trying to get a job transfer to the area, and it didn't work out, but my current boss said not to worry, they value my contribution so much that he is willing to let me telecommute from my new farm, 300 miles away!!! Wow, this is all dream come true!!!!

I also found a way to telecommute from 300 miles away when I moved from the big city to a small town. I was not expecting it at all, but when I turned in my resignation, the same thing happened--the boss said I was too valuable to let go, and asked if I would consider working long distance.
I found that my whole attitude about work changed. Rather than feeling chained to my job, I felt like I was making a fair exchange of my time for their money. Also, because I was so removed from the office politics, I found myself in much more of a "customer service" role with my employer as the customer. My goal was to keep them happy and find a way to be useful to them. There were no more power struggles and no more simmering resentment that I had to spend my days in an office.
It was not without its difficulties and misunderstandings--it is awfully hard to read the mood of a room when you're only there on speakerphone--but I have learned to be so diplomatic and careful that it is rarely a problem anymore, and we can laugh about it: if somebody makes a face, someone else will tell me about it so I get the non-verbal cues, and it relieves the tension for everybody to just acknowledge the unspoken stuff that goes on!
Anyway, good luck with your telecommuting and with everything else. Sounds wonderful.

Congratulations! Since you are moving to Spokane, and I am in nearby Coeur D'Alene getting ready to move away (to my new home in TN), we have kept the balance here! As another person who is up to her eyeballs in boxes and packing materials, let me just say that "I feel your pain!" But, it's all worth it, isn't it? One thing nice I have already discovered is that even though I am moving 2400 miles away, I get to take all my Farmgirl friends with me. I don't feel like I am moving by myself to a place where I don't know a soul (technically, I am) since I have found a wonderful support system here. Can't wait to hear more about your new "digs". (Hey, is that Farmgirl humor?!) |

Thanks! The packing has been a bit of a drag. We've been in boxes for such a long time now... it will be like Christmas in September being reunited with my kitchen things. There will be so much to do when we get there - setting up the fencing, fixing the barn, and so forth, but it's not the same kind of draining fatigue that comes with helpless waiting. We are definitely up for the challenge!
