For over 20 years I dreamed of a log home in the country. Finally 3 years ago it came true. We found 12 acres of land and built our cabin on the very back. From then on the work began. It was exhausting but in return I loved every minute of it from my Hubby and myself putting up fences/ planting grass, trees, scrubs and flowers/ started our honeybee colony/ and figuring out what to do next. It has been a dream come true. We have fresh eggs, honey, garden for veggies and fruit trees (still young). We had goats and wild dogs took care of that but since they are history we have heard. I am in the process of trying to find another small nubian for us, we have horses and one cow that we saved from being put down. We love to sit on our porch at night and enjoy the peace and quiet. I was raised in the country - getting back to that is great!

Sigh...For now I must be content to live through those of you who are fortunate to live my dreams. Please keep these kind of posts coming so we less fortunate (no I take that back!)we who have not seen our dreams materialize YET can keep our hope alive!

Enjoy our good life!

Julie, I may just have to get with you about those nubians if I can't find any closer. I am tring to find a very young female nubian and all I can find are bucks. I am searching ads and farmers market bulletins. I thought I could find one close by - so if I keep going into dead ends I just may have to travel a distance. Thanks for letting me know about those. I will sure keep those in mind.

Hey, Susie! Great work! I know I'm a little far (northwest Louisiana) but if you really want a Nubian or two, my neighbor raises them, and is looking to sell a few. She also has Nigerians, and boy oh boy, are the babies precious!

Marly, I do feel very blessed. Sometimes its hard to believe that I do have my log home. Our porch is one of the most relaxing places we have. It is so peaceful and at night you can hear all sorts of creatures! My grandson (2) will hear the frogs or bugs and he will say "whats dhat". Last year I decorated my Christmas tree and the living room in old country style and loved it! Hopefully my daughter will at some point show me how to post pictures so I can share them. Thanks to all for your comments! Wish I could have you all here and we could sit on the front porch and talk and drink lemonade!!

Susie:
I am sure when you are sitting on your porch you feel blessed! I absolutely love porches. A porch, to me, can never be wide or big enough! And a log home. How great. I just finished posting to Beverly about her building one. Wow, a log home is one of my dreams. Have a great and happy day!

Oh, how lovely that you got your dream fulfilled! Congratulations! Sorry to hear about your goats. One of my best friends has goats and she treats them like her children. They had a problem with coyotes a couple of years ago and got a couple of alpacas. My friend swears they are very protective of their property and hasn't had much trouble since. Just a thought, anyway.Good luck with your home, you have been truly blessed.

Sorry to hear about your goats. A log house! I would love to own a log house. Put a picture of it for all to see. I would love to see the house. What is a Nubian? Is that some sort of animal? Have a great day!

Congrads to your move back to the country. I too moved back 3 years ago. Not the log cabin I wanted. DH said they are too much work. So we built in Log style with no maintenance exterior but once you walk inside you would never know the difference. Isn't wonderful to be in the country!!!!!!!!

Yes Cheryl they do come true! Congrads to you also!! Enjoy every minute of your home.
Marly, I wish I did live on the coast. But I do love where we are. Even though we live in a small town, Atlanta and Columbus are not far away. I am between the two cities.

Congratulations Susie!
Dreams do come true... Hubby and I wanted to move to the country and own a small piece of heaven.. We love our new home and are able to retire here in Oregon. I planted a garden and will raise chickens in the spring.. Settling in to a dream come true!

This is a great place. Have a great day.

Thanks for the information Tracy. I really do want animals and this might be a good solution. I will try to post some pics if I can get my daughter here long enough to help me. I have tried but I am not doing something right. I would love to share pics of my house and property.

Congratulations Susie!

I too am sorry to hear of the loss of your first animals. A Llama MIGHT work, but llamas are no match for more than one or two dogs at a time. You might do better with a pair, or even a TRIO, of llamas (gelded males are the best), or even a male/female pair of Livestock Guardian dogs. I have a Maremma (sort of like a Great Pyrenees, only not as long in this Country and of Italian origin) I got him because we have LOTS of dogs around-- city people moving in and out of the house down the road from us who think they can get a bunch of dogs and just let them run loose-- that sort of thing.

We have never lost an animal to predation because of him, and I have never had the displeasure of having to do away with SOMEONE ELSE'S pet. My dog is FABULOUS! But Livestock guardian dogs are NOT like other dogs, so you might want to do a little "in-depth" research before you decide on the guardian that's best you and your purposes. I went into MY guardian animal search with this thought--- dogs (which WE were plagued with also) have TEETH. I wanted something with TEETH as well! Good luck to you and I hope ALL your dreams come true!! Hugs ~~~ Tracy
