Hello All...

We've loved our farm in SE Wisconsin/Kenosha County for 8 years, but sadly have determined building a new house is not possible, and renovations are also out of our realm/budget. So, before we list 'officially' wanted to make available to the farmgirls. I check in on occassion, but haven't posted in a while.

Low taxes, great schools, 10.5 grassy acres. Very nice property in excellent location is loaded with potential. Build your dream home, hobby farm or equestrian estate. Or if you are really handy, renovate the 3BR, 1BA, 1-1/2 story original farm house; built in 1913 and in poor (but habitable) condition. Will be sold AS IS. Some mechanicals have been updated (furnace, well pump/pipes, water heater).

Surrounded on three sides by farm fields – privacy galore. Two horse pastures and trails around property will get you started. More than half the property is prairie grass with scattered shade trees -- ready for fence. Large garden area, hand-dug by yours truly.

Original 1860 barn, needs extensive rehab. Has 40-ft, 18x16 hand-hewn beams with peg construction and loads of usable wood. Large silo. 55x26 patio with 36” cinderblock back wall, higher side walls to block the wind. 15 x 20 shed in useful condition. 8x8 chicken coop in excellent condition. Chickens negotiable. :)

Commuters will love easy access to I-94, plus nearby train access to both Chicago/Northern suburbs and Milwaukee.

Sorry, no renting, rent-to-own or land contracts available.

Offered for sale by owner at $359,900.

Photos below...Thanks for looking!

Hi Cathy

I live south of you in Waukegan. My sister lives up in Kenosha. We were actually just up your way last weekend in Sturtevant & drove through crop areas & my kids said "what's that?" I said: "That's cabbage I do believe!"

Cathy...I lived in Rockford for 13 years on the west side in a 2 block historic area. We lived on Garfield Ave. in the old Smith Oil house. Small world! Congrats on the twins!

Hi Mere & Sandra,
Sorry for delay in response, haven't been on in a few days!

The farm is about 5 minutes to get onto I-94, about 15 minutes to the Kenosha Metra train station to downtown Chi-town.

No takers yet, but quite a few lookers, so to speak. Have found a couple pics of the house, but not yet on the computer (didn't want to keep bumping my post). Now that you've asked, I'll make it a priority.

Did you ever find those actual photos of the house?

Actually tell me more about how far from the train?
perhaps we can light a fire under him...

Argue for your limitations and sure enough they're yours.

Any takers yet?
We're in the Chicago area and looking to get out, but I don't think we'd have the means to do it right now. BOO HISS!
Wish we coulda found a way to help us both out.

Thank you ladies! We've felt lucky have been able to live in beautiful SE Wisconsin, and to do our part to keep the farm, well, a farm.

Also feeling lucky to be looking forward to the new adventures the twins will bring, along with their 6-yr-old big brother and 2-year-old big sister. And here I thought I was excited by twin egg yolks from the flock!

I'll be posting additional pictures of the property in days to come. Have to sort/pack now while I am still able.

Sigh....I wish...that would be a dream come true for me, and I miss Wisconsin terribly. I lived in Dodge County for 3 years (Beaver Dam)...that was home to me. Whoever buys your property will be very lucky, indeed!!

Hello farmgirls...new development. Twins on the way. :)

Have lowered the price to $299,000 to account for the market and to get us back near family.

You caught me looking for the house photo...which seems to have disappeared. But here is the artistic rendering of the photo I am looking for!

I'll try to figure out the photo posting today. Thanks for asking, and thanks for the detailed photo server info under Welcome Wagon, MaryJanesFarm!

On the topic of tips, if anyone has previously sold a farm property, or even just extensively shopped for one and has any general tips, those are appreciated too!

We're hoping to pass the farm on to people who can appreciate and see the dream, too bad the south has its hold on you! :)

We visit Carthage once in a while, it is still beautiful.
jpbluesky Posted - Feb 17 2008 : 3:49:53 PM
My hubby went to Carthage College in Kenosha. He is a Rockford Boy. When I asked him if we could buy the acreage in Kenosha (wishing), he said that is cabbage country, in a way I knew took him back down the memory lane of life.....Now, who does not like cabbage????? :)
The farm sounds like a dream come true for someone. Wish it were us! But we have roots too deep here in the south to leave - our kids and grandkids are here. Will never leave them!

Now that you mention it, there is a cabbage field about a mile down the street.:) The farmfields bordering switch off between corn and soybeans.

SE Wisconsin fields tend to sprout crops of subdivisions lately...this township has strict 'keep it rural/ag use' policies.
