Jenna can you recommend a good whistle? I am interested in getting one but they had so many I didn't know where to start. I am not a beginner just have never tried the irish whistle before.

I would LOVE to come to a weekend like that - sounds divine, as long as it's not the weekend of Sept 15 or 22. I have to be at the state fair those weekends to sell my goods. I definately will pick my fiddle up next trip to the cabin. I leave it there because if I have it at home, I wouldn't get anything else done for trying to learn how to play! Please please do the fall farmgirls weekend. What a great way to learn to play, and meet some of our farmgirl friends. |

the irish whistle sounds amazing. it can be as small and light as a penny whistle or deep and heavy as a foghorn. its really easy to play and transport. its the flutelike sound you're used to hearing in celtic music or on soundtracks to movies like braveheart ot Tintanic.

That sounds like an awfully lot of fun. I dont have a dulcimer or a fiddle, but man would that be fun to learn. Okay, you have my curiosty what is an irish whistle, sounds like more my speed...LOL

start taking herout now with you around the chickens and goats. Huskies will be fine with farmanimals if they grow up around them. She needs to try and chase them and get scolded IN THE ACT, with a stern NO!! and a clap. No need to hit, or be violent. Siberiancs are so pack-minded they quickly learn do do what their leader tells them. The worst mistake you can make is scolding and screaming at the dog after they've done something wrong (remember the old shove their face in their mess thing) dogs don't have memories like we do. They don't put it together, not really. And you end up just being mean to your dog scolding after the fact.
anyway, you can email me or call if you have more questions. we can farmdog it up more there!
anway. Sibes are great sleddogs, carting and pack dogs. if you live near your grocer you can put on canine saddlebags and have her carry home some of the groceries. I cart, pack, and sled with my two dogs. You can buy a mini sled called a kicksled for one dog. Its like snow-scooter that they can pull and you can help glide it along.

Jenna - I have a question - you say that your dogs are working animals on the farm... what sort of jobs do they do? I have a new husky puppy named Pretty (possibly purebred but probably only part husky) and I am wondering what job I can give her on our farm. I'm worried about her chasing the goats and chickens...

it takes about an hour and a half tops from Spokane, half and hour from CDA. I'm thinking of hosting a farmgirl's fall weekend for people who want to learn the dulcimer, irish whistle, psaltry, guitar or fiddle. I'm hoping theres some interest? I have 3 spare bedrooms here if people wanted to make a weekend out of north idaho!
