It's been a looong winter, but this snap my husband took from my loom room upstairs is so beautiful. We can hear the wind whipping off the bay two blocks from our old Victorian home. It's so cozy in the house with a good fire blazing in the wood stove. We have much to be thankful for.

Love,
Mel

I agree Judith. The Persian king over 3,000 years ago decided his people were too cranky from the winter so he came up with a bunch of activities to keep them busy preparing for spring & the New Year. Super house cleaning, decorating with plants and spring bulbs, making of new clothes, intricate meals, family visits for 13 days leading up to the Nowruz (Farsi for new day) and the Wednesday before the spring equinox jumping over small fires (we have to use a candle) to burn away all crabby bad feelings from the winter. It's a lot of fun and really makes the last days of winter fly by quickly doing all the activities. Of course living in the Midwest meant 2"s of snow for our spring morning, but we still had fun!

Happy New Year Dawn! I have always felt the first day of spring should be the beginning of the year rather than in the cold dark middle of winter.

Happy Nowruz! The spring equinox is the Persian New Year. My husband is from Tehran and we have been busy texting with family, sending pictures and talking on the phone with everyone. I am making our big celebration dinner now and we are watching Persian music videos. We did wake up to over 2"s of snow this morning but it is melting quickly this afternoon in our beautiful sunshine.

Stay warm & have a wonderful first day of spring!

Brrr, this is the truth of March up where you live regardless whether many states are actually seeing spring show up. But I know that warm cozy fire makes it possible to enjoy the wild weather outside your window. That blankets of snow is beautiful albeit just plain cold!

Stay cozy and warm there Mel. The snow stayed to the south of us.
