Back from vacation. Saw the Wild Horse Corrals in Burns (will be posting a bunch of pictures tomorrow), and visited the Whitman Mission on our way home. I've got several pics of the mission on my blog today if you're interested in seeing them!

LOL...I've had nightmares about that head. I keep thinking I'll wake up with it in my bed. Then I have visions of it hanging from a tree like Walter did...
Currently, it's in a box, and the box is inside a plastic bag. For some reason City Boy has been storing it in the back of my pickup. I'm not sure how this makes me feel, both about the horse head or City Boy. But that's where it is right now. I'm not easily grossed out, but this comes pretty close, especially with the ear...

Michele, I don't know how you could leave out the most important part, lol! I've been having so much fun with Ghost in photo shop...no doubt I'll be using him in future posts. Maybe in a Winsday photo contest...
I spent the better part of the morning shuffling through the photos, trying to decide if I should call down there and have them hold a horse for me

How can I leave out the most important part for a horse lover like myself. The horses are magnificent, especially the Ghost horse. Great pics.

Thanks for the link, Alee! I'd love if I could get over that way sometime. I think I may have pushed City Boy to the limit in finding wild horse herds this time, lol! Might have to find a group of girls (or old ladies like me) who'd like to take a road trip over there.

If you like Wild mustangs (as I know you do from your blog…) You should consider a trip over to Montana and Wyoming to look at the Pryor Mountain herd. There are a ton of roads that you drive that lets you get into prime horse country.
My dad and I did a road trip there when I was in Middle School specifically to look at the horses. We saw both a wild horse herd and wild goats!

Alee, you simply must visit the mission! It's overwhelming, really. A somber place; even Darling had to stand and take it all in silently.
Can't tell you how many pics I got of that roan! He was just so striking; that mane and tail were like flames! I'll have more wild horse pics up tomorrow (well, later tonight, really.)

I love all the photos from your trip! That red roan gelding sure is beautiful. You can just tell by his face that he is sweet and intelligent. It’s so hard to see these horses all ready for adoption and not want to take one home, isn’t it?
I had never heard of the Whitman Mission before your posting. Now I _have_ to go see it! It is such a sad story! I think it is really important that our current generations make and effort to visit these memorials and learn their stories. I hate to feel like such important parts of our nation’s history are slowly slipping away. Thank you so much for sharing this story with us!
