Blow out an egg?? I think I did this years ago, do I make a hole in both ends and just blow the egg out? How big of a hole and what do I make the hole with, How many dozens of eggs will I ruin before I get one that doesn't shatter? If I can get this to work, I would like to glitter the shell etc. POSSIBLE OR WHAT?

Yes, you just make a hole in both ends with a needle/tack/etc. and blow. But it's not quite as easy as it sounds because the egg will not cooperate. I used to do this every Easter as a kid and I was always frustrated. But you're an adult, so you might have more patience!

The smaller the hole, the better it will look. If you make a single puncture to start, and then pick out a little more around the edges to make it two or three times its original size, that would be about right. Be careful because the egg will want to crack into chunks around the hole, and that will look bad. You are more likely to get a big, ugly hole than you are to shatter the whole egg. You might be able to cover that up with your decorations.

Once you start blowing, you will need to be patient because it takes longer than you would think from reading directions in a craft magazine! It will go faster if you let the egg warm up to room temperature, not straight from the fridge. And when you've made your two holes, try sticking a longer needle or skewer down into the middle of the egg to break up the yolk.

One thing I just heard of that might make it easier: rather than putting you mouth directly to the smaller end of the egg to blow, use a drinking straw. Cover the hole with the straw and blow through that.

Once the egg is blown, you should be able to decorate it however you want. But I used to find that if you get egg guts on the shell, even though you wipe them off, sometimes paint and dye won't "take" properly over that spot (and if you dyed or painted the egg first, the egg guts will take your paint off wherever they touch). Your glitter idea should be fine. Good luck!

I'm going to try dying eggs this year with some natural colors. There's an article in one of the MJF magazines that I need to go back and reread.

I poke a hole in both ends (I have used a tack) and then use a skewer or something to kind of break up the yoke. Then you just blow gently.
