In Va. we have a tree that is lavender. It is about the size of a dogwood tree.
Can anyone please tell me the name of this tree
It grows wild in the woods here too.
I would like to have some of those where we are starting our retirement home on our farm.
I am planning on having some lavender ( lilac) azzale buhes

It does sound like an Eastern Redbud. The blossoms on the tree are a purple-y pink color and sort of old-fashioned looking. (If you know what I mean!) We have them all over Georgia. They are such a beautiful tree.

My grandmother called them "redbud"
But, they are lilac.

A couple of different thoughts came to mind in addition to those already mentioned:
~ Lilacs (there are *tons* of different varieties)
~ Rose of Sharon (which is actually a Hibiscus)
~ Spirea
~ Butterfly Bush
~ Rhododendrons (some varieties)
~ Crabapple (a mutant - somewhere between the standard pink or white)

I have the redbud in my courtyard,they are beautiful small trees, they lose all leaves in the winter then start flowering out small flowers all over that look like miniature orchids, then they get heart shaped leaves.
is this what you are thinking of?

My first thought also was a redbud tree...does it bud completely out and then get leaves? Then it would be redbud...I love those trees. Jamie |

Redbud Tree? They're all over Kentucky this time of year, growing along the roadside, in clumps of cedars, etc..they're not really "red" but more like a magenta...
