Ok girls! I dont know what to do. I have an invasion of Moths! They are little moths, not big ones. I started noticing them one by one about a month or two ago. But now they seem to be coming out of the woodwork, or somewhere. I actually don't know where they are coming from, but they are driving me nuts. I don't seem to notice any damage to clothing or anything. I have to admit... I squoosh them! And when I do its like they just turn to dust. I have never had this problem before so I dont know what to do. And please do not suggest moth balls. Have you ever smelled moth balls? If you answered yes...how did you get their little legs open? Ok sorry, I had to tell that joke. But seriously, anything other than mothballs and squooshing! Thank you girls! If anyone can come up with ideas I know you girls can!

I am glad that I am not going crazy! The vision of your honey sucking moths into the vacuum is hilarious. I am just glad to know that its a "Colorado" thing. Arent we lucky?! Yahoo! And Luzy if you havent seen any yet be aware, THEIR BAAACK!
Im glad I got a good laugh out of you girls with my moth ball joke, I just couldnt resist. It still cracks me up too.

Hey Jaime! We have a horrid problem with moths here in Colo! I've been told that they migrate, but I'm not sure. We make a trap: Fill a large bowl all the way up with soapy water, put a light/lamp over it and they will go to it. One night we got 96 in our kitchen!!! They don't get into the food, just fly around and dive ya nutty!!! One morning at 3:00 am, I heard my vacuum and there was Hubby in his underwear waving the wand to the vacuum around sucking in moths!! I thought he had totally lost his mind. Nope, he just got up to take a drink of water and got ambushed by moths. It's awful for a few weeks, then they leave. I haven't seen any so far this year, but I know they are coming!! Good luck! Lu

lilpunkin..you had me laughing out loud..after I read what you wrote..I was like what did I just read? LOL oh dear gracious..you cracked me up.that's just messed up. LOL

oh dear..seriously now..I hope that you find a solution soon.
I wonder if you could do a roach bomb in the house/attic and if that would alleviate the problem?

Ok I dont know if anyone would remember this. But I talked about it in A farm of my own. last year we bought property 75 acres. It has a large metal barn/ building on it. Half of it was converted into a 2 bedroom apartment. Thats what people do out here in Colorado while they are building ther house. Anyway, so we moved into the apartment part of it until our house is built. well when we bought it I had asked on here how to get rid of that moth ball smell that is in the garage, thankfully not in the house. Well now I know why they had moth balls! So this was obviously a problem in the past. I know it is not coming from any of my food. Checked all that and there is nothing anything can get into. I have all of my flours, etc. in glass canisters. Like I said, this must be something that has happened in the past. I would guess they either are coming in from outside or they are breeding in the attic. Do moths migrate like butterflies? Maybe it has something to do with the seasons. I have looked up all kinds of stuff on them. They kind of look like clothes moths, but they arent, they didnt fit anything that was written about them. Sorry to vent on your girls about my moth problems, they are just bugging me! Literally!

check cake mixes, mac & cheese... anything you buy in a box that could have flour in it. Do they look like sand flies?

Oh NO! I keep all of my dried goods in sealed canisters! even my dog food and cat food are in sealed containers! I will really have to go looking now! UGH!
Im wondering if they are coming out of the attic or something! Great, now I have to go on a moth hunt!

Jaime...

Karin is right. Sometimes they are in your flour too. I keep mine in the refrigerator now because of that very reason & haven't seen any of those critters around since. You do have to check everything... oatmeal, noodles, rice, baking goods... anything with flour. They will bore through bags & boxes too. You might see what kind of looks like webs. They lay their eggs & it turns to larvae, kind of like a cocoon. I have had to throw out lots of dried goods when we got them. Keep your flour in the fridge & you should be ok once you get rid of them.

Ok, now that I have stopped laughing..... Have you checked your pantry? We had that problem once and it turned out to be the pasta I had stored. (Just in it's box!) They can also come from dog or cat food, flour, cereal, rice. etc. Yuck! But I guess if something is harboring eggs, they are going to hatch. Try taking everything out and washing the shelves down with vinegar and water, as well as wiping down the things you put back in. Be sure to inspect all of your dry good boxes before putting them back. I hope you can find your source and be rid of your unwelcome visitors!
