I'm not sure if this topic goes here or under the gardening forum - It's more about pasture management than gardening...
Anyhow, we have noticed a large colony of gophers (or at least it seems like a large colony) in our coastal hay pastures, both up front by the main road and back by the stock tank. They are tearing up the ground, and more importantly, making it dangerous to walk across the pasture. We're also worried about the live oaks in the pastures as well, as several of them are looking pretty sad.
Does anyone have any experience in ridding a pasture of gophers? I'm looking for a large scale solution, rather than something that might work on a small front lawn...

Believe this or not but years ago, a friend of mine had some sort of license from 'the government' to rid a US airfield of gophers. The theory was that the gophers attracted the hawks and other predatory birds and the airplanes would hit them and caused all sorts of damage to planes and of course, the birds. She couldn't use poison cuz of nearby water supplies so she developed a system of using a bit water tank (like an Army water buffalo) and big hose and shot the water down the holes. Gophers have numerous 'doors' and they would come bailing out the other door/opening. Most times they were half drowned but then she and her helper would scoop them up and put them in cages. Then she either kept them and made the young ones into pets or the 'government' did something with them. But she got inspected and had to keep their cages uber clean.
I don't think she's in biz anymore but at least here's an idea for you...
