I found,, actually, my hubby spotted them 1st,,, 3 almost completed quilt tops!
all stitched and pressed.. all that needs to be done is attaching the batting and backing, binding and then having it topped stitched...
Sorry the photos are not great,, I still am to lazy & cheap to buy a new camera... lol!
The 1st and 2nd ones are almost large enough to use as a twin bed topper..

This 3rd one is a bit smaller and makes a very generous sized lap quilt or table topper..

I luv this sampler style,, and the rich jewele tones. The Quilter did a fabulous job on her Hexis and Dresden plate,, the stitches are so fine and tiny,, you have to use a magnifier to see them!

Wish I knew the story how these 3 ended up in a Thrift,, and were there more??? Wish I knew who the Quilter is/was,,

Oh, and I forgot to mention,, I paid $4.99 for the first 2 and $5.99 for the 3rd one...

I have found good fabric at some thrift shops, too. As for this quilt, I wish I knew why it was in the thrift shop. Maybe the owner passed away and her kids didn't want the quilt? There are initials "ES" in the lower LH corner and "1989" in the lower RH corner. Makes me wonder if ES made it herself or was it made for her?

WoW! $2 for that beauty! Good thing all us Farm Sisters save all these beautiful things so they can live on. It sure is a throw away world, isn’t it? Their loss but our gain. Going thrifting tomorrow! Can’t wait. I’ve been finding new fabric and new yarn lately and loving it!

Linda, I cannot believe that was $2. The stitch work is impeccable

Linda -- I think you hit the thrift shop jackpot. It is beautiful. I agree with it being Amish; the fabrics and stitching look like it.

Grace, Judith, and all - I do I agree with you all. I sometimes wonder what happens to things that I have made and spent a lot of time on, and then given to somebody. And Judith, I agree with you on gifting a quilt or other sewn item to someone with a dog, unless you know that, like Grace, they would take care of it. I made a pillowcase for a woman with a dog print, but it was for her. She told me that she had put immediately put it on her dogs bedPillow. Yes, it was hers, to do with as she pleased, but I was not happy that her dog was enjoying it.

Today I found this beautiful wall hanging quilt at the Humane Society thrift shop here in Branson Missouri. I can tell it was quilted by the Amish, because the stitching is so small, as you can see in some of the pictures we took. I hate to say that this 42 in. Square Quilt only cost me two dollars. The stitching is tiny and beautiful and all the points are perfect. I am so happy I found it.

WOW, Grace!! These quilt tops are gorgeous. You found a huge treasure trove for next to nothing! They would make awesome gifts for family members once you get the backings on them. You and Hubby do find the coolest stuff when you go out and about!

Luckily I haven’t come across anyone who has done that with my stuff yet, but I can only imagine how hurtful it would be. You do have a wonderful point Grace. Even though it’s hard to put my feelings aside, no one will feel as attached as I was because I am the one who made it. This is probably why my most valued things I make go to my parents. I know they are safe with them.

I also couldn’t imagine giving my dog a lap quilt. Don't get me wrong I made Maylee a tie blanket but that took me no time at all and was specifically made for a dog. No way could I give her a handmade quilt.

Judith... I so agree,,, I did a simple block lap quilt for a cousin,, to which she gave to her little poodle, as a doggie blanket.. and sent me a photo and said her 'Lulu" loved it..
Well, actually, maybe I should feel honored that the Poodle liked it... lol!

I learned the sad way to not gift a quilt to anyone who owns a dog.

Krista,, I know,,, always wonder..

Years ago, I did a lovely floral cross stitch pillow and backed it with velvet and a double layer of rruffles, (velvet and eyelet lace)
I spent hours stitching, and in the center of the floral ring design I stitched the repipient's inital.. keep in mind, it was not a inexpensive gift by the time I added the velvet, eyelet lace and the pillow form...

I gave it to a dear friend as a birthday gift,, several months later I spotted it on her daughter's bed, all beaten down and dirty... my heart was broken that it was not cherrished as I had thought it would be..

I learned a very valuable lesson,,, when you give a gift, it is no longer yours to expect the recipient to have the same emotional connection to the gift as I did/do.. maybe that is why I feel the need to rescue all those old unloved 'gifts'... lolol!

I have always been curious about the things I make for people. I wonder if they still have them, if they were given away, or even thrown away. But if they ever are, I hope someone sweet will pick them up and find joy in them.

Oh, if only these quilts could talk..
I agree with Judith,, the quilter probably passed and so the quilt tops ended in the Thrift,, just waiting for me to rescue them..

What luck that you rescued the work of such a talented quilter. It's so sad that her work ended up there.

My guess in cases like this is that the quilter passed away and no one in the family knows how to finish them. The same thing will probably happen to my unfinished quilts. At least giving them to a thrift shop is better than taking them to the dump.
