from A to Z..
Who knew you could buy chicks from sears...

back then, fabric was 36" wide except for upholstery and drapery fabric which was 45"

Wow, Barbara, I would love to see what magazines you have from the 1940s and 1950s. I purchased some old Farmer's journals from Ebay from the early 1940s and just love them!! They have so many interesting articles about farming at that time and about the "new" ways and equipment that would make a farm run more efficiently. It is fascinating!! Hehe, If I went up in your Attic, I might not come out for weeks because I would be so caught up in reading old books and magazines!! LOL!!!! You are lucky to have such cool things in your attic. Collecting allows these older written accounts of life so long ago are not only interesting, but also important history lessons. Appreciating the past is helpful in understanding the current times. At least it is for me. Not to mention that I am such a nostalgic person and find that I am getting to be more so with each passing year!

I also have a Sears 1965 and a Montgomery Wards 1966 catalog... I love them for 2 reasons..
Brings back memories... and
Helps me identify and date items from that era.
The Sears 1953,, is Kool...
I especially love checking out the Bark Cloth and Pebble cloth motifs as well as kitchen appliances, Chennile coverlets and dish patterns,, oh heck,, I love it all!

I used to love looking at Sears catalog and longing fot things I never could have---including a set of Nancy Drew books. I have a few old fifties catalogs and several from the 1920's and I love to crawl up in the attic and look at them sometimes. I also have a lot of fifties and forties magazines up there. I must get up there and organize---but I usually scream and run back down---it will take nerve to face that mess.

I like the price of the fabric - 34 cents a yard!!! 44 cents for calico!!

Back in the 1930s and 40s, you could mail order houses to build and outhouses! Imagine a big truck delivering all the pieces and parts of you new house ready to put together!! I find it so fascinating. It feels sad to me that now Sears is barely alive anymore. They just can’t compete in today’s market competition with Home Depot and Lowe’s . They closed our Sears a couple of years ago and I hated to see it go. In my childhood, Sears was the place you could get anything for home or farm and the catalogue ordering was a way of life form many homes for essentials .
What fun you are having enjoying a walk back to the past with this old catalogue!
